On September 14, 1987, a representative of our firm performed density tests in the fill for the proposed residence on the above referenced project, Tests were performed at random locations, in accordance with ASTM D 2922-81 and ASTM D 3017-78 Nuclear Density Test Procedure. Tests were performed as per authorization of Bob Cullen. The estimated locations of the tests are presented on the attached plans with their results being summarized on the attached test report sheet. A total of two (2) density tests were performed, Tests results indicate that a minimums of ninety (90) percent relative compaction have been obtained within the areas tested. The maximum density -optimum moisture were determined in the laboratory in accordance with ASTM D 1557-78, Method A or C. Test results are as follows: Soil lDescrition uSCS Grey very fine to medium sand SP -VENTURA (805) 642-6727 BAKERSFIELD SANTA BARBARA (805) 327-5150 (805) 966-9912 120.8pcf 10,9io LANCASTER (805) 948-7538 BERMUDA DUNES SAN LUIS OBISPO (619) 345-1588 (805) 544-6187 October 28, 1987 -2- 137-0175-P l 87-10-814 1. The project is located on the northeast corner of Calle Yucatan and Avenida Diaz in the City of La Quinta, CA. 2. Prior to our arrival at the site, the fill for the pad had been placed and compacted. 3. The purpose of testing was to observe compliance with the minimum requirements of the City of La Quinta, California. Limitations This firm did not perform a soils investigation, did not conduct any tests to determine the general condition, adequacy or stability of soils on the property, nor did It observe the backfilling or compacting operations which were already completed at the time our personnel were called to the site. The only services performed were the specific moisture and density tests summarized in this report. These test results provide only limited information about the surface materials observed at the locations and depths tested and cannot be relied upon for information about subsurface conditions or compaction, or to determine the appropriateness of any design or construction of improvements on the site. No inspection was made of the contractor's work and no guaranty or warranty of that work in backfilling or compaction soils on the site is made or implied. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact this office. Respectfully submitted, BUENA ENGINEERS, INC. i xnillip D. It is used instead of'a regular water heater in order to save energy. It operates on the heat pump principle: i.e.. a corepressor operating in a non- reversing refrigeration circuit extracting heat from the air and expelling it through the condenser to the water. A he unit is designed for new %Must uctiun, replacement. or wherever a suitable electric or gas water heater is not currently in place The heat pump is shipped attached, plumbed and wired to an 82 -gallon electric water heater tank. The heat pump section contains a compressor. air -to - refrigerant evaporator coil• air fan, water circulating pump. refrigerant -to -water condenser coil. expansion device. and controls. Air is forced over the evaporator coil by the fan. while water is circulated from the bottom of the hot %%atcr storage tank through the condenser coil, and returned to the tank by the circulating pump. E -Tech Water Heaters have been thoroughly tested b%utili- ties, government agencies and independent laboratories. All ratings and specifications are in accordance with standards proposed by the: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute or the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association. Installation and Operation The Model R 102 Water Heater is designed to be installed as easily as a standard electric water heater: hot and cold lines are soldered to the stubs on the heat pump and a 25 amp. 230 \ olt power supply isconnected. The only additional steps required are purging air from the heat pump \\atcr lines and running a condensate line to a suitable drain. The heat pump must be protected against freezing and temperatures greater than 95'-115' F.* This will normally exclude attic installations. The WHHP inav be installed in unconditioned. freer% -protected space or in conditioned space. The space cooling effect of the WH H P may ha\e some impact on the heating and cooling rcquircnu:nts of the Condi- tioned space. The minimum siic closed space fur installation is 750 cubic feet: less space is required it air Ilow is permitted. such as %%ith louvered doors. In lo%% tcmpCraunrc situations (front 45'-50' F depending on rclativc humidity and inlet %%atcr temperature) the heat putTtp %rill auwmatically shut off and the resistance element in the tank will he activated. Versatile units are applicable to heating only, heating -cooling or heat pump applications. Several models are available in varying sizes with a wide range of heating and cooling capacities. E12Q2 and E12Q3 models are for up-flo applications only. The E12Q4 and E12Q5 series models are applicable to either up-flo or down-flo installation. The ES12Q2, ES12Q3 and ES12Q4 series can be installed in the horizontal or down-flo position and the ES 12Q5 models in the horizontal only. The optional field additive "slide -in" coil installs internal to the cabinet (up stream from the blower and electric heat elements) and is specially matched to the unit for efficient air delivery and maximum capacity. For up-flo applications optional return air cabinets are available for installation on either side of the unit. The cabinets are trim and attractive appearing with a durable electro -bonded paint finish. Removable front panels provide complete service access to cabinet interior. Variable speed direct drive blowers have sufficient capacity to handle cooling air volume requirements. Hammock style fiberglass air filters are furnished on E12 up-flo models only. Nichrome heating elements give long service life and efficient heating operation. Factory installed cir- cuit breakers are accessible external to the cabinet. Optional accessories available include thermostat, return air cabinets, down-flo additive base, outdoor thermostat and filter kits. Units have been tested and rated according to Department of Energy (DOE) test procedures and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) labeling regulations in the Lennox Research Laboratory. Furnaces are U.L. listed. In addition, units and components within are bonded for grounding to meet safety standards for servicing required by UL and NEC. Blower performance data is from unit tests conducted in the Lennox Laboratory air test chamber. Each unit is test operated at the factory and shipped assembled (except for the DX coil) with all controls mounted and prewired. The installer has only to make the necessary field duct and electrical connections. This family of energy efficient outdoor units have SEER's of up to 9.8 with a cooling capacity range of 18,700 to 56,000 Btuh and COP ratings of up to 3.1 with heating capacities of 19,900 to 61,000 Btuh. A variety of matching up-flo, down-flo and horizontal blower powered indoor units, with optional supplemental electric heat, provide selective sizing and installation versatility. For complete data on indoor units see individual bulletins. Several refrigerant line sets are available in various lengths, see line kit table for selection. Line sets are optional and must be ordered extra. The HP16 cabinet is heavy gauge galvanized steel with a durable baked -on enamel paint finish. Special paint process protects cabinet against all kinds of weather. Design of cabinet with louvered inlet air panels and horizontal air discharge protects fan, fan motor, compressor and other internal com- ponents from the weather. Heavy duty base support channels elevate unit above mounting surface. Dual outdoor coils provide extra large surface area for highest heat transfer. Coils are protected by rugged steel guards. Automatic defrost control system operates only when required. Compressor crankcase heater and heating -cooling thermostat with emergency heat sub- base and warning lights are furnished as standard. Outdoor units are test operated at the factory to insure proper operation and are shipped ready for installation. Installer has only to locate unit and make refrigerant line and electrical connections to complete installation. NOTE — Specifications, Ratings and Dimensions subject to change without notice.
