THE NECESSITY OF STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS: STATISTICS SHOW THAT THE FREQUENCY
OF EARTHQUAKES HAVE INCREASED OVER THE PAST 20 TO 40 YEARS. IF THIS TREND'
CONTINUES, THEY WILL BECOME MORE FREQUENT IN THE FUTURE. THE SAME SEEMS TO
BE TRUE FOR HURRICANE FORCE WINDS. CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES OF THE PAST ARE
NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO REVIEW
THE, PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS TO BE SURE HE UNDERSTANDS ALL OF THE STRUCTURAL
REQUIREMENTS. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF THE BUILDING
BE STRUCTURALLY TIED TOGETHER, MAKING MAXIMUM US OF PLYWOOD, STEEL STRAPS OR
OTHER STRUCTURAL CONNECTIONS. THE FOUNDATION, SHEARWALLS, TOP PLATES, BEAMS,
HEADERS, ROOF DIAPHRAGM AND DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ROOF MUST BE STRUCTURALLY
TIED TOGETHER.
AT HIS EARLIEST CONVENIENCE, THE ENGINEER WILL DISCUSS ANY OF THE STRUCTURAL
REQUIREMENTS WITH THE CONTRACTOR OR OWNER BEFORE CONSTRUCTION BEGINS. ANY
QUESTIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED. WHEN IN DOUBT, PLEASE
CALL THE ENGINEER. (619) 323-8007.
1. THESE CALCULATIONS WERE PREPARED FROM DRAWINGS FURNISHED TO THE
