STRUCTURAL REVIEW COMMENTS I
1 SGN Note has been added to SGN sheet at lower right hand corner of sheet.
indicating structural observation is required.
2 A letter has been enclosed regarding reviewing the roof truss calcs.
4 Lateral analysis has been revised to reflect correct dead load. We
changed the R factor to 5.5 in lieu of 4.4, therefore one seismic load did
not change. We used the R=5.5 table for the Hardy Panels.
5 S-2 Replaced shear wall with Hardy Panels. See revised calcs and plan.
8 S-2 See following sheet from Hardy Frame, Inc. regarding S -Hardy Panel
resting on mudsill. Note Capacity is the same except HF8X12 7/8,
however our load is less.
11 Per my telephone conversation with Mr. Hue on 2/24/05, using the table is
adequate. Hardy Panel anchor bolt embedment are shown in a Table on
sheet #7 of 11 in the ICBO PFC 5342.
12 Alternate basic load combination is used for the above project.
,
13 Hardy Panel between Living Rm and Owners Suite and shear wall
are not in the same line. The roof sheathing between the two different
lateral shear resisting element are at two different heights, therefore they
can be considered two different resisting lines. Per telephone
conversation with Mr. Koutsouros on 2/22/05, this is adequate.
14 Per telephone conversation with Mr Hue on 2/24/05, no addition analysis
was requried based on his review of the plans faxed to him on 2/22/05.

For SL 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 Ibf = 4.45 N
iNotes: 1) Installation on wood sill plate is for a nominal 2 -inch -thick member installed on concrete or masonry foundations.
2) Loads shown are Allowable Stress Design loads per UBC, include a stress increase of 1,33 and are restricted to designs
based on the alternate basic load combinations specified in UBC Section 1612.3.2 and IBC Section 1605.3.2. To use the
basic load combination in Section 1612.3.1 of the UBC or Section 1605.3.1 of the IBC, divide the allowable shear values
and corresponding drift by 1.33. For allowable loads per the IBC, Section 2.7,3 of this report applies.
3) Drift at Allowable Shear V considers shrinkage and crushing of the wood sill plate. Shrinkage is based on 1-1/2" net
vertical dimension (2 by silt plate) and a 7% change in moisture content. Compression is based on Fc of 625 psi and
a compressive load equal to uplift_
4) For Wood Sill Plates different than described above, Procedure 1 must be used to verify that drift is within the code limits.
5) The 114 -inch diameter by 3 -inch long wood screws must have a minimum allowable design value of 311 lbs. (excluding
the allowable 1.33 stress increase) based on metal (No. 12 gage) to wood (specific gravity of 0.50 or greater) connection
Complying screws are Hardy Frame HFS - series, USP WS -series (ICC ES PFC-5634) or equal.
6) When installing a 2 -by filler (wood with §pecific gravity of 0.5 or greater) at the top connection, the minimum screw length
is 4-1/2 ir)ches. i
7) Additlony up formly distributed vgrti jl load 'P" is permitted on top of Panels in accordance with Table 1. 1, provided wood
crushing ,ik investigated.
8) When art a0gitional load "P" is applied, Procedure 1 must be used to verify that drift is within the code limits.

ATTN: Jody Jones
RE: Roof Truss Calculations and Layouts on "Lot 12 -Tradition" to
be built in La Quinta for Andrew Pierce Corp.
(ESI/FME 4826)
Dear Jody:
We have reviewed the calculations and layouts dated on 1/27/05 by AC Houston Lumber and
they appear to comply with the requirements of our calculations and plans.
The review of these drawings does not relieve the contractor from compliance with the
drawings and specifications. This check is only for review of general conformance with the
design concept of the project and general compliance with the information given in the contract
documents. The contractor is responsible for confirming and correlating all quantities and
dimensions, selecting fabrication process and techniques of construction, coordinating his
work with that of other trades, and performing his work in a safe 'and satisfactory manner.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be
of further assistance to you on this project.
Sincerely,
ESI/FMEJ
