I have recently been contacted by the Builder, Keith Miller, for clarification of some field conditions that came to light during framing inspection. The following is a list of my findings and recommendations: 1) The use of a double 2x6 at the right end of B1 is sufficient. A quick review of my design calculations reveals a double 2x6 at ten feet high can support over 3,300 lbs. This far exceeds the design load for Cl. The double 2x6's shall be stitch nailed together with 16d @ 6" o.c. 2) The use of an HTT16 in lieu of the HTT22 specified in my earlier project observation visit is entirely acceptable at the location on the rear wall under the window sill members. 3) Upon review of my calculations and the product information available for the Simpson Strong -Tie SW16x7-4's at each side of the single car garage opening I find that the end load carrying capacity of the SW16x7-4's is sufficient to support the header loads. It is therefore permissable to bear the header directly on the end of the strongwalls and eliminate the use of the additional (2)2x studs.
