Subject: Report of Field Densities

Submitted herewith is a report of testing and intermittent observations
performed during the grading of the above referenced project . Grading
operations were performed by Jay Manley using conventional heavy equipment.
Testing performed as per authorization of Jay Manley for Augustin Paz. Test
results are presented on the attached test.report sheet with their estimated
locations plotted on the accompanying plan.
Compaction tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D 2922-81 and ASTM D
3017-78, Nuclear Test Method . Maximum.density-optimum moisture were deter-
mined in the laboratory in accordance with ASTM 1557-78, Method A.
Test results are as follows:
'Soil Description Maximum Density Optimum Moisture
Dark brown silty very fine to find 112.4 pcf 12.1%
sand
Discussion:
1. The purpose of the testing was to observe c-ampliance'toi:
December 11, 1985 -2- B -15824-P1
85-12-232
and test results were still below ninety (90%),percent of relative compaction.
4. Fill materials were removed from the pad. The exposed soils were
then scarified water and compacted.
5. Previously removed soils were then placed in thin layers watered
and compacted untio required density was obtained.
6. A total of eight density tests were taken after the initial grading
and during the regrading of the pad.
7. Test results indicate that a minimum of ninety (90%) percent of relative
compaction has been obtained in the areas tested.
8. Based upon intermittent observation and testing during the grading oper-
ations, from November 15, 1985 through November 26, 1985 on this project,
it is our.opinion that the intent of the recommendations of the refer-
enced soil investigation have been met.
9. We make no warranty, expressed or implied except that our services were
performed in accordance with engineering principles generally accepted
at this time and location.
10. As used herein, the term "observation" implies only that we observed the
progress of work we agreed to be involved with, and performed tests on
which together we based our opinion as to whether the work essentially
complies with the job requirements.
11. With any manufactured products, there are statistical variations in its
'uniformity; and .fin .the accuracy_ef_testsusecL__to_masure its qualitites.
As compared with other manufactured products, field construction usually
has wider fluctuations in both product and test results. Thus, even
with very careful observation and testing, it cannot be said that all
parts of the product comply with the job requirements. Therefore, our
opinion, based on observing and testing the work, means only
that we performed our services in such a manner as to have reasonable
certainty that the work essentially complies with the job requirements.
12. Locations and elevations of in-situ tests were determined in accordance
with their importance and accuracy and proximity of provided survey
control. Unless otherwise noted, their locations and elevations by
pacing and -visual sightings.
