Last week we received a call from a contractor requesting an inspection for a project that we had approved through plan check, 'he was requesting to use -the existing 4x12 header (Beam 6 = Attached Plan/Calculations) instead of the approved 4x14. The remodel plans submitted by the applicant show an approximate span of 16 feet with a 4x12 beam supported at each end and mid -span with a 4x4 post at approximately 6 feet on center with the trusses spanning over the opening to the patio beam. ' During our inspection is when it was. noticed that the truss was bearing on the opening, so we requested a beam calculation justifying the use of even the 4x14, let alone the existing 4x12. We also decided to pull the engineering package,, since it is a tract product and available for review, and noticed the discrepancy between the remodel plan and the tract approved plan to be true. I have attached the original engineering, framing plan and truss calculations with the applicants remodel calculations for your review.
