This letter is in response to your request to approve the installation of two
electrical services to serve a single building located at 80825 Via Montecito at
The Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta. The single building in question consists of
the main residence and game room, connected by the exterior pavilion.
Based upon the December 14, 2009 letter from Imperial Irrigation District
(attached) indicating their inability to serve a single 600 -amp service with their
existing infrastructure, under the provisions of the 2007 California Electrical Code
(CEC), Article 230.2(B)(2) and 230.2(C)(2), your request is hereby granted,
subject to the following conditions:
1. Each main disconnect (main breaker) shall be a circuit breaker with a
shunt trip mechanism. The design and installation of these mechanisms
shall provide that if the main breaker in "Service Panel #1" tripes or is
opened (turned off), the main breaker in "Service Panel #2 wil open.
Conversely, if the main breaker in "Service Panel #2" trips or i3 opened
(turned off), the main breaker in "Service Panel #1 will open.
2. Electrical plans must be revised, reviewed, and approved by the Building
& Safety Department prior to slab inspection approval.
3. Revised electrical plans shall include:
a. Revised, full-size electrical plan sheets, replacing Sheets A4.1 a
and A4.1 b in the existing approved plan set.
b. Revised electrical load calculations, with separate calculations for
each service and the areas, appliances, and special loads served
by each.
c. Revised single -line diagrams showing each service and its
respective sub -panels.
d. Graphic corrections to show the locations of "Service Panel #1" and
"Service Panel #2."
e. The specific electrical heating devices intended for use at the
loggias must be shown on the revised plans, and their loads
included in the load calculations.
f. A graphic depiction of each of the two permanent identification
plaques required by CEC, Article 230.2(E). Each plaque must
contain all of the required elements noted in that code section.
g. A graphic detail of the shunt trip mechanism described in Item 1,
above.
The final result is that the main house and connecting pavilion are served by
"Service Panel #1," a 400 -amp service panel. "Service Panel #2," also a 400 -amp
service panel, serves the game room, the detached guest
garage/exercise/laundry building, and the detached guest casita.
