Subject:. PV System - 2nd Review Comments

Matt,
In order to expedite the'permit process I have.attached a redlined copy of the Weaver Residence plans with
additional review comments listed below. I am hopeful that you will be able. to make the necessary revisions
to the plan and be able to get thern'back to me (by email is fine) today so that we will be able to issue
today as. well. Review. comments are as follows:
Per your 1st review responses Vmp voltages are being. lowered with respect to temperature. Provide
calculation and code section for the use of temperature (derating) correcting factors of voltages. .
Revise schedules per cut .sheet specifications.
8* 2. Proposed Maximum System Voltage exceeds the allowable values as specified on 31.5 Solar Panel
Cut sheet. Max System Voltage: Voc x Series of Modules x Table 690.7 (1.13 for Temperatures 31
to 14°F) Provide calculation justifying a properly sized PV system.
3. Equipment Grounding Conductors and Grounding Electrode Conductors specified on plan do not
comply with Schedule or CEC 250.66 (ac)/250.166 (dc). Reconcile information throughout plans.
G 4. Conductor ampacities shall be derated by the appropriate factors listed in Table 310:16 and 310.17.
Roof top conductors not.derated per plan reviewer specified temperatures.
See 2nd .Review Redlined Plans.
.I can approve the plans for the Mitchell. Project though. comments 1 and 4 do apply. The.Vmp values are
not creating errors, I am more unclear. as to your reasoning for derating the voltage based on temperature,
and. the derating of conductor ampacities are greater then what I feel the code requires, so they comply
with a level of tolerance, though on future plan submittals I would expect all these comments to be
resolved.
.I say hopefully this can get resolved today because I have been selected for jury duty tomorrow and do not
know when I will be returning. Additionally I will be out in the field this, afternoon doing inspections. We are
here till.5:30 though so this does give us sometime to get this.done today.

I. General
Reconcile noted information shown throughout I" review redlined plan. Please provide responses to
each item and identify all revisions made to plan.
II. Circuit Requirements
Vcuita do photovoltaic source circuit or output circuit, the maximum photovoltaic system voltage for that shall be calculated as the sum of the rated open -circuit voltage of the series -connected photovoltaic
modules corrected for the lowest expected ambient temperature. (CEC §690.7) The Temperature
correction factor for the proposed location is 31-14°F (1.13). Revise plan as necessary.
Z2he Circuit conductors and Overcurrent devices shall be sized to carry not less than 125% of the
maximum currents as calculated in 690.8(A). (CEC §690.8(B)1) The values shown in diagrams and
tables on plan sheets PV -02 and PV -03 do not look to be calculated based on the correct product
specifications.
IV. Wiring Methods ,
All PV system wiririgrmust be made using one of the, specific installation/materials methods included
in the (CEC §690.31, Chapter 3) Run locations not specifidd on singleine'diagram.
here direct current photovoltaic source or output ckdis o1?a utility -interactive inverter from a
building -integrated system are run inside a building, they shall be contained in metallic raceways or
enclosures. (CEC §690.31 (E)).
When ambient temperatures exceeding 30°C, conductor ampacities shall be derated by the appropriate
actors listed in Tables 310.16 and 310.17. Temperatures commonly used for derating factors are 105-
113T for conductors located on walls and 141-158°F for conductors located on roofs. Add derating
information to table data.
V. Grounding
Identify the do grounding electrode conductor and specify a size per CEC §250.166,.690.41. Unable
to identify conductor and/or conductor specified does not meet the applicable minimum size
requirements.

Subject 50 lb. Per sq. IL Sharp 200 series modules mounted to the RoofTrac flat mounting system.
TEST SETUP FLAT MOUNT: Three Sharp Solar 200 Series 64.6' x 39' modules boiled3o 1.5' x 1.5' x 124' RoofTrac support rails using a
combination of 10 Ea. 5116' stainless steel bolts, lock washers and specially extruded inserts. The mountfrig ciannel was attached to the simulated
roof with a 318' nut and washer at six Tile Trac attachment points. The Tile Tree was then attached to 4' x 6' rafters using a 5116' x 3' lag boll. The
spans tested consisted of a front to rear of 48' with attachments spaced at 46'. The entire test set up rested on the concrete floor. The Roof Trac
mounting system will support Sharp.200 series photovoltaic modules.
TEST PROCEDURE: The test set up was loaded using sandbags that produced an equivalent 50N9q.ft loading. Upon completion of the placement
of the sandbags the maximum deflection that occurred was W. The sandbags were left for 30 minutes with no change in the defleclon or any We
sign of distress. After the 30 minutes was completed the fixture was inverted m simulate the downbad condition. The results of the tests were
duplicated to the uplift condition. The deflection was W maximum and the fab re suffered no signs of distim due to the loading. This document
certifies the RoofTrac mouNing system used with the 200 Series Sharp Solar modules, withstands a 50 Ib. per square foot static pressure bad, this
loading is equivalent to a wind speed of approximately 125 mph ring wind bad exposure and gust factor coefficient •exposure C' as defined in the
2006(IBC)12007(CBC). Overall the mounting unit performed as expected.

This engineering report verities that Trkek Engineering has provided. Independent observation for load tasting as described in this report The results
of this bad test reflect actual deflec titin values and are generally accepted as the industry standard for testing module mounting systems. Trkek
p Engineering does notlield check insfallations.or veriy.that the mounting system is installed as described :in this engineering report To assistdw
. building inspector in hleriScatio n of this mounting system, it is required that a permanent adhesion Ibel desabing'Roof Trac' is to be placed on at
least one of the main support nags.
Shftral attachment Lag bolt attachment should be Installed using the proper pilot hole for optimum strength. All lag engagement slwA be
propery torqued and driven perpendicular into the center of a structural member of the root Lag boles require drilled pilot holes to length of the
thread using the amen listed below:
1. 5/16' lag bolt requires awls' plot hole
2. 318' lag bolt requires a %: plot hole.
If the roof ply or shingle is to excess of 318' in thickness, it is recommended that the longer length lag screw be used b insure minimum engagement
It is the responsigsr* of the instager to insure that solid attachment is made to the stnrdural member of the roof. Failure to securely attach 16 the
roof structure may result in damage to equipment or personal injury.
Photovoltaic solar panels are generally accepted as a light weight roof accessories and generally do not require roof load caludabors when property,
installed. However, this office does not express an opinion as to the load bearing characteristics of all roofs and under all conditions of load. Roofs in
excess of 25 degrees in pitch, with snow bad, should be reviewed on a regional basis.
Wind loading'values ere defined by"the UBC are relative lo defined bad values per square foot performed in this static load, tesL
attachment devices that have been laboratory tested by accredited ICC testing laboratory and provide similar ritention values d
with this system.
