Box, 1716 La Quinta, California 92253 _ - Project: Lots 47 & 48 - Mountain Estates 77-380.Vista Rosa La Quinta, California Subject: lfesults of In -Place Density Tests Building Pad.Grading Summarized in this report are our; observations and the results of in-place density tests performed as requested at the subject site during the"grading of the building pad for the proposed single family residence. The site is located on lots 47 and 48 of the Mountain Estates development in the Santa Rosa Cove area of La,Quinta, California. Pad Grading was performed by Nuevo Engineering using conventional heavy equipment. The building pad area was overexcavated to a depth of approximately three feet below pad grade. The bottom of the excavation was scarified, moisture conditioned and recompacted prior to fill placement. The previously removed engineered fill material was placed in thin lifts at near optimum moisture content and compacted to at least 90 percent -reiative,compaction. Some import material was required to achieve the desired grade. The import sand was obtained from Granite Construction Company. Overexcavation and recompaction extended to a lateral distance of five feet beyond the building limits. Observations and field testing were performed on February, 20, 1998 and February 26, 1998. The excavation bottoms were approved prior to fill placement. Testing indicates . that a minimum of 90 percent relative compaction was attained in the areas tested. The passing test results indicate compliance with the project specifications at the tested locations and depths but are no guarantee or warranty of the contractor's work. Field Tests: In-place moisture/density tests were performed using a nuclear density gauge in accordance with test methods ASTM D 2922 and ASTM D 3017. A total of 18 tests were performed. " The approximate test locations are indicated on the attached plan and test results are'summarized on the attached data sheets. 4 I,? t ,March 3, 1998 ~ ' (2) Project No. 522-8016 Laboratory Tests: The moisture -density relationships for the tested materials were determined in the laboratory in accordance with test method ASTM D 1557-91. Laboratory test results are summarized on the attached data sheet. Allowable Bearing Pressures: The structural values recommended in the initial Soil Engineering Report and addendums prepared by Buena Engineers and confirmed in the Geotechnical Update prepared -by. Sladden Engineering (Project No. 544-8009, dated February 2, 1998) remain applicable for use in foundation design. Conventional shallow spread footings should be bottomed,in properly compacted fill material a minimum of 12 inches below lowest adjacent grade. Continuous footings should be at least 12 inches wide and isolated pad footings should be at least two feet wide. Continuous footings and isolated pad footings may be designed utilizing allowable bearing pressures of 1500 psf and 1800 psf, respectively. The recommended allowable bearing pressures may be increased by one-third for wind andseismic loading. The surface soils consist of imported sands that are non -expansive and fall within the "very low" expansion category in accordance_ with. Uniform Building Code (UBC) classification criteria. A sample of the surface sand was obtained and delivered to Anaheim Test Laboratory for soluble sulfate. testing. _ Soluble sulfate content was determined in accordance with California Test Method No. 417. Testing indicated a soluble sulfate content of 107 parts per million. The low sulfate content indicates that the normal Type.2 cement should be adequate and the use of Type 5 'cement or special sulfate resistant concrete mix. designs should not be necessary. a If there are any questions regarding this report or the testing summarized herein, please contact the undersigned.
