Do not expose treated area to moisture for 24 hours. ©1990 8/20/200 _ EXTERIOR: All surfaces to be treated must be clean and dry. Thatch Safe is water based, clear liquid that becomes insoluble when dry. Thatch Safe acts as a preservative, waterproofing agent, ultra violet inhibitor, mold and mildew protector and repels insects. If over -coating is intended, Thatch Safe is an excellent primer for use under latex paints or can be used as a finished coat over water based stains. DO NOT DILUTE OR MIX THATCH SAFE WITH ANY OTHER PRODUCTS. It should be noted that unlike some products, materials treated with Thatch Safe require no special cutting tools or special fasteners. Contact parts of any equipment should be stainless steel or plastic to prevent chemical reaction and breakdown. Storage may be done in polyethylene containers. Spills can be flushed with water. A rag wetted with bleach and water mix will clean up spotting. CLEAN UP PROCEDURE: Airless Equipment: 1. Run clear water through the system until saturant is flushed out. W hen minor sudsing on surface stops, the system is flushed. 2. Run bleach and water mix (1 part to 1 part) through system as solvent for cleaning any residue. 3. Repeat Step.1 if any foaming occurs in Step 2. 4. Lubricate system as specified by equipment manufacturer to combat rusting. If two or more jobs are planned in the same day, the sprayer can be kept clean by running water through the system between jobs. SAFETY FIRST: Use approved safety devices (ropes, belts, ridge hooks, ladders, etc.) when working on steep or high areas. Take EXTREME CARE not to step on wet treated area. Surface may be slick until dry. It is a good practice to wear a respirator or mask and protect hands with rubber gloves when spraying any coating or chemical. When engineered air control is not feasible, use properly maintained and properly fitted NIOSH approved respirator for solvent vapors. A dusk mask does not provide protection against vapors. If eyes are contacted by saturant, flood with water for fifteen (15)-Lminutes and contact a physician. KEEP OUT OF.REACH OF CHILDREN. INTRODUCTION March 13, 2015 Page 3 of 9 This report describes the results of the ASTM E84-14 TEST FOR SURFACE . BURNING CHARACTERISTICS OF BUILDING MATERIALS a method for' determining the comparative surface burning behavior of building materials. This,,test is applicable to exposed surfaces, such as ceilings or walls, provided that the .matetaal or assembly of materials, by its own structural quality or the manner in ,whidh-,4it is tested and intended for use, is capable of supporting itself in positio Qr_ be ng supported during the test period. .° The purpose of the method is to determine the relative burnih," . i avior of the material by observing the flame spread along the specimen FlaM6 spread and smoke density developed are reported, however, there,, i8,ynot necessarily a relationship between these two measurements.' 'The use of supporting materials on the underside of:tke:test=specimen may lower the flame spread index from that which might be obtairied if.the specimen could be tested without such support... This method may not be app op Ir ate for obtaining comparative surface burning behavior of some cellular plastic materials... Testing of materials that melt, drip, or delaminate to such a degreeUha heycontinuity of the flame front is de- stroyed, results in low flame spread indicesthat' do not relate directly to indices ob- tained by testing materials that remain in,place? This test method is also publishedunder the following designations: NFPA 255 UL 723 UBC 8-1 This stari;Zl d' Xghould be used to measure and describe the properties of materialsroducts, or assemblies in response to heat and flame under K . controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or a appcaisse fhe fire hazard or Fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under'actual Fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as W eleme` is of a Fire risk assessment which takes into account an of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the Fire hazard of a par- t cular end use. PURPOSE March 13, 2015 Page 4 of 9 The ASTM E84 (25 foot tunnel) test method is intended to compare the surface flame spread and smoke developed measurements to those obtained from tests of miner i, 9. fiber cement board and select grade red oak flooring. The test specimen surfacd: (18 inches wide and 24 feet long) is exposed to a flaming fire exposure during7th minute test duration, while flame spread over its surface and density of the r`es (ting -: smoke are measured and recorded. Test results are presented as thedcoufed comparisons to the standard calibration materials. a AG. ?. The furnace is considered under calibration when a 10 minute tesSV red oak decking will pass flame out the end of the tunnel in five minutes, 30 seconds -pus or minus 15 seconds. The fiber cement board which complies with of the ASTM E 84 standard forms the zero point for both flame spread and sCnokea, developed indexes, while the red oak flooring smoke developed index is setasl;QO. s III.
