The site is being considered for a new roof top solar panel installation. The purpose of our review was to determine the capacity of the existing roof to carry additional loads that would occur due to the solar panel addition. The existing structure is generally constructed of steel open web joists and girders supporting the roof. We had access to the existing structural drawings which we used to analyze the existing roof and its ability to carry the additional solar panels loads. Based on our calculations an allowable ad load of 5.0 psf could be used. We have also reviewed the proposed solar panel layout drawings done by Panel Claw and found the proposed solar panel layout is acceptable with regard to the ad loads placed on the structure. This allows the inverter to produce the nameplate power rating should the inverters operate with AC system voltages as low as 12% below nominal. Solectria-Renewables requires that every PVI 14kW-28kW inverter be installed with an external overcurrent protection device. The recommended overcurrent protection device rating for the PVI 14kW-28kW inverters are listed in the table below.
