between the City and Desert Recreation District.
Attached for your signature is Amendment No. 1 to the current Memorandum of
Understanding with Desert Recreation District to provide youth recreation
programming at the Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School for evening sports programs.

AMENDMENT NO. 'I TO MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH
DESERT RECREATION DISTRICT
THIS AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
WITH DESERT RECREATION DISTRICT., for recreation , health and fitness
opportunities ("Amendment No. 1") is made and entered into as of the 25 day of
April 2017, ("Effective Date"), by and between the CITY OF LA QUINTA
("City"), a California municipal corporation, and DESERT RECREATION DISTRICT,
("District").
RECITALS
A. On or about June 2016 the CITY and the DISTRICT entered into a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) to provide facility use at no additional cost to members of DRD
during 10 holidays per calendar year and to allow La Quinta Wellness Center members
use the La Quinta Community Fitness Center during the La Quinta Arts Festival. This
shared use is in the best interest of the La Quinta residents. The term of this original
agreement expires June 30, 2017.
B. Pursuant to Section 1.2, the CITY and the DISTRICT may extend term of the
MOU upon mutual agreement by both parties.
C. The DISTRICT and the CITY now wish to amend the original MOU to provide
youth recreation programming at the Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School facility. The
evening sports programs will be conducted inside the school's Birdcage facility
(indoor/outdoor gym) and would be programmed by the DISTRICT for youth ages 8-14
years.
AMENDMENT
In consideration of the foregoing Recitals and the covenants and promises hereinafter
contained, and for good and valuable consideration, the sufficiency and receipt of which
are hereby acknowledged, the parties hereto agree as follows:
1. SECTION 1.2 OF TERM OF THE MOU IS HEREBY AMENDED TO
COMMENCE ON JULY 1, 2017 AND TERMINATE ON JUNE 30, 2018.

AMENDED TO READ:

Obligations of DISTRICT
The DISTRICT will allow La Quinta Wellness Center fitness members use of the
La Quinta Community Fitness Center during the La Quinta Arts Festival.
The DISTRICT will allow La Quinta Wellness Center fitness members use of the
La Quinta Community Fitness Center during scheduled routine maintenance
closures as determined by the CITY. The CITY will provide the DISTRICT
advanced notification in writing of routine maintenance closures.
The DISTRICT will provide an evening variety sports program and will cover any
and all costs/ fees direct/ indirect for the sports program associated with the
DISTRICT's interests.
The DISTRICT will provide for the following related to the sports program:
• Coach(es) and costs for staffing
• Score Keeping
• Set-up and Tear down of program equipment
• Costs for Minor Materials and Supplies
• Registration
• Program Promotion Efforts
The CITY will provide any and all costs/ fees direct/ indirect for program
associated with the CITY's interests.
Then CITY will provide for the following related to the sports program offered by
The DISTRICT:
• Submitting a facility use application and securing use of the DSUSD
school facility (Colonel Mitchel Paige Middle School Birdcage)
• Securing janitorial services though DSUSD
• Provide free promotion of program though the La Quinta GEM, City
website and social media platforms
• 1 CITY staff member to assist with scoring, coaching, set-up and tear
down of equipment.
In all other respects, the original agreement shall remain in effect.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the CITY and the DISTRICT have executed this Amendment
No, 1 to the MOU for recreation, health and fitness opportunities on the respective dates
set forth below.
