2019 03 11 CSC Minutes COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES MARCH 11, 2019 COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES MONDAY, MARCH 11, 2019 CALL TO ORDER A regular meeting of the La Quinta Community Services Commission was called to order at 5:32 p.m. by Vice Chair Quill. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Blakeley, Wyler and Vice Chair Quill ABSENT: Commissioner Marley PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Wyler led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. APPOINT CHAIR Presented by Chris Escobedo, Community Resources Director MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Quill/Wyler to table item until the April meeting. Motion: ayes 3, absent 1 (Marley). 2. APPOINT VICE CHAIR Presented by Chris Escobedo, Community Services Commission MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Quill/Blakeley to table until the April meeting. Motion: ayes 3, absent 1 (Marley). 3. APPROVE COLOR SELECTION FOR PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT – DESERT PRIDE AND MONTICELLO PARKS Commission recommended shade cover for Monticello Park. MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Blakeley/Wyler to approve colors brownstone and forest green for the Monticello park equipment and forest green for the Desert Pride park equipment. Motion: ayes 3, absent 1 (Marley). DEPARTMENT REPORTS 1. FACILITY REPORT Presented by Robert Ambriz, Parks Superintendent • X-Park o Going to Council for approval March 19 COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES MARCH 11, 2019 o Possible pump track installation o Shade structure(s) are being considered o No age restrictions. o Manned facility will provide monitoring activities for safety compliance. They will also provide a mentorship program to assess patrons’ skill levels. o State law permits waiver to the helmet law for skateboarding. o City is open to hosting future tournament events at this site. o City owned facility, but facility management outsourced. o Facility hours have not been determined yet. o Minimal landscaping. o Plans for old skate park undecided. o Project timeline currently on schedule. • Fritz Burns Pool o Gas line installation delayed by Gas Co. o Will re-open on time 2. ART MAINTENANCE – LEBASSE INTRODUCTION Presented by Jaime Torres, Community Resources Business Analyst • Introduced Ana Iwataki, Director of Civic Projects at LeBasse Projects o Toured City’s art to get a sense of the condition and needed maintenance o Work experience with other cities include, but not limited to: San Diego, Los Angeles, and Oxnard o Would like to establish a database of City’s art inventory Commissioner Blakeley requested a database template be presented to commission for review and approval. 3. IRONMAN UPDATE Presented by Chris Escobedo, Community Resources Director • Intensive community outreach plans • Goal to have route plan completed by May STUDY SESSION 1. GET OUT GET ACTIVE Presented by Lisa Chaudhry, Community Resources Administrative Technician Consensus among commissioners to moved forward with partners to promote GOGA program. Staff has agreed to present final program and launch date to Commission no later than the June meeting. CONSENT CALENDAR 1. APPROVE MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 11, 2019 MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Blakeley/Wyler to approve the February 11, 2019 minutes as amended. Motion: ayes 3, absent 1 (Marley). COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES MARCH 11, 2019 COMMISSIONER’S ITEMS • 13TH ANNUAL LA QUINTA HOT ROD AND CUSTOM CAR SHOW o Commissioner Wyler • DESERT YOUTH OLYMPICS - None • Commissioner Quill provided an APP Civic Art Center purchase update • Commissioner Wyler suggested rotation of art collection to provide more viewing exposure. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, it was moved and seconded by Commissioners Blakeley/Quill to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 p.m. Motion: ayes 3, absent 1 (Marley).
