2019 07 18 CSC Minutes Special Meeting COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES May 13, 2019 COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES MONDAY, JULY 18, 2019 CALL TO ORDER A special meeting of the La Quinta Community Services Commission was called to order at 4:31 p.m. by Chair Wyler. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Biondi, Blakeley and Chair Wyler ABSENT: Commissioners La Greca and Marley PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Commissioner Blakeley led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance. PUBLIC COMMENT ON MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA – None. >>>Commissioner Marley arrived at 4:33 p.m. and was in attendance for the remainder of the meeting<<< BUSINESS SESSION (MOTION REQUIRED) 1. APPOINT ONE COMMISSIONER TO SERVE ON THE ART EVENT REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) REVIEW PANEL Presented by Chris Escobedo, Community Resources Director and Jaime Torres, Business Analyst MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Blakeley/Wyler to appoint Commissioner Blakeley to serve on the Art Event Request for Proposals (RFP) Review panel on July 25, 2019. Motion passes unanimously. Commissioners comments:  Marley o Asked for clarification regarding RFP’s signature art event and supplemental art events o Expressed concern that having the event at the Civic Park will draw comparisons to the La Quinta Art Festival (LQAF) o Concerned that out-of-the-area producers will be challenged to recruit volunteers o Suggest that City purchases are waived from commission  Biondi o Suggested that the awarded producer employee a local volunteer coordinator o Opportunity for event producer to create an event distinctively different that appeals to a larger / different demographic  Blakeley o Different fiscal process COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES May 13, 2019 o How are rankings delivered? o Is there any customer evaluation available from LQ Arts Foundation? o SilverRock  Wyler o Will there be a contract with the selected producer? o Suggested reduced parking rates and valet COMMISSIONER’S ITEMS – None. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, it was moved and seconded by Commissioners Blakeley/Biondi to adjourn the meeting at 5:14 p.m. Motion passes unanimously.
