EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
• The applicant proposes to amend the Pacific Western Bank Sign
Program (Program) to allow for additional signs per tenant and
increase the allowable sign area.
BACKGROUND
In 2007, the Planning Commission approved a sign program for the building
formally known as Pacific Western Bank and currently known as Royale
Estate Building. The Program permits wall signs consisting of individual
illuminated channel letters. The original Program allowed for (3) building
mounted signs for the main tenant and (1) per additional tenants and for
sign lengths to vary from 16-inches to 92-inches.
PROPOSAL AND ANALYSIS
The applicant requests an amendment to the Program be approved for
Pacific Western Bank Sign Program (Attachment 1). The proposed Program
amendment is to allow for additional signs per tenant based on the exhibits
provided, as well to increase the allowable sign area (Attachment 2). The
proposed signs (6) will be located on the south, east and north elevations.
The proposed sign program amendment will not substantially alter the
aesthetics of the building and will provide tenants increased visibility. Future
signs for this location shall be submitted under the general sign permit
process as they are identified and reviewed against the parameters of this
approval.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The Design and Development Department has determined that this project is
exempt from environmental review pursuant to Section 15301 (Existing
Facilities) of the California Environmental Quality Act in that the proposed
project includes on-premise signs.
