Report of Observations and Testing During Rough Grading Ref: Geotechnical Investigation report prepared by Sladden Engineering dated December 5, 2011; Project No. 544-11199, Report No. 11-12-274 Interim Report of Observation and Testing During Rough Grading prepared by Sladden Engineering dated April.19, 2012; Project No. 522-11199, Report No. 12-04- 097 2 Summarized in this report are the results of in -place density tests performed at the subject site during the initial rough grading of the Torre Nissan expansion project along with pertinent observations. The project site is located at 79-125 Highway 111 in the City of La Quinta, California. This report provides a summary of final testing for the west building addition. The initial grading is summarized in the above referenced Interim Grading Report. Remedial grading included over -excavation and re -compaction throughout the new building addition area. New building addition areas were over -excavated to a depth of approximately 5 to 5.5 feet below pad grade. The soil exposed within the bottom of the excavation was scarified, moisture conditioned and compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction. Field testing was performed from April 25, 2012 through April 27, 2012. Testing of the engineered fill soil indicates that a minimum of 90 percent relative compaction was attained in the areas tested. The passing'test results indicate compliance with the project specifications at the tested locations and depths but are no guarantee or warranty of the contractors work. Field Tests: In -place moisture/density tests were performed using a nuclear density gauge in accordance with ASTM Test Method D 6938-08. A total of 10 additional density tests were performed. Test results are summarized on the attached data sheet. The approximate test locations are indicated on the attached site plan. t May 1, 2012 -2- Project No. 522=11199 . 12-05-110 Laboratory Tests: The moisture -density relationships for the testedmaterials were determined in the laboratory, in accordance with ASTM Test Method*D 1557.-91. Load bearing walls maybe supportedoncontinuous spread footings and interior columns may be, supported on isolated pad footings. All footings should be founded upon properly compacted engineered fill and should have a minimum embedment depth of 12 inches measured from the ` lowest adjacent finished grade. Continuous and isolated footings should have a minimum width of 12 inches and 24 inches, respectively. Continuous and isolated footings may be designed using. allowable (net) bearing pressures of 1800 and 2000 pounds per square foot (psf), respectively.. Allowable increases of 250 psf.for each additional 1 foot in width and 250 psf for each additional 6 inches in depth may be utilized, if desired. The maximum allowable bearing pressure should be 2,500 psf. The maximum bearing pressure applies to combined dead and sustained live loads. The allowable bearing pressure may be increased by one-third when considering transient live loads, including seismic and wind forces.
