For your records, I have enclosed
a copy of the Compliance Order that
was issued,to the La Quinta
Country Club on July 31, 1990.
During a scheduled fire sprinkler
system test/inspection we discovered
construction in progress for
6000 square foot building addition to the
.existing clubhouse to be used
for storage, offices, and an employee
lounge..According to Robert
Moore, General Manager for La Quinta
Country Club, they obtained
a building permit for a shade structure in
February 1990. The building
plans were changed and.a permit obtained
in June 1990 to provide for
this addition. The Fire Department -was not
provided with the opportunity
to review the proposal prior to issuance
of permits.
The one fire hydrant located in the bushes approximately 175 feet from
-the access drive is not capable of providing the flows required for
the existing building and obviously any expansion. The additional
fire hydrant needed to provide the required fire flow is located
approximately 1500 feet away. Once building and system plan
review/approval has been completed we will advise the applicant of the
minimum fire protection measures that will be required for this
"expansion. Considering that the project is nearing a midway point and.
the possible costs that may be associated with the Fire Code -
requirements, the applicant would have desired to know of these
requirements at an earlier stage of the process. I would encourage
that on future projects, Fire Department plan review/approval be
accomplished prior to issuance of building permits
