Dear Mr. Rock:
Pursuant to your request, we have reviewed the following information regarding solar panel installation on the roof of
the above referenced homer
1. Site Visit/Verification Form prepared by a Vivint Solar representative identifying specific site
information including size and spacing of members for the existing roof structure.
2. Design drawings of the proposed system including a site plan, roof plan and connection details for
the solar panels.. This information was prepared by the Design Group and will be utilized for
approval and construction of the proposed system.
3. Photovoltaic Rooftop Solar System Permit Submittal identifying design parameters for the solar
system.
4. Photographs of the interior and exterior of the roof system identifying existing structural members
and their conditions. ,
Based on the above information we have evaluated the structural capacity of the existing roof system to support the
additional loads imposed by the solar panels and have the following comments related to our review and evaluation:
Description of Residence:
The existing residence is typical wood framing construction with the roof system consisting of the following:
• Roof Sections (1 and 2): Prefabricated truss with all chords constructed of 2x4 dimensional lumber
at 24" on center. The attic space is unfinished and photos indicate that there was free access to
visually inspect the size and condition of the roof members.
All wood material utilized for the roof system is assumed to be Douglas -Fir #2 or better with standard construction
components. The existing roofing material consists of clay tile shingles.
Stability Evaluation:
A. Wind Uplift Loading
1. Calculations for uplift are based on ASCE/SEI 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and other
Structures, a wind speed of 130 mph based on Exposure Category C and 20 degree roof slopes on
the dwelling areas.
2. Total area subject to wind uplift is calculated for the Interior, Edge and Comer Zones of the
w dwelling.
vivint. solar
B. Loading Criteria
13 PSF = Dead Load (roofing/framing) 20 PSF = Live Load (Roof snow load)
3 PSF = Dead Load (solar panels/mounting hardware)
Total Dead Load = 16 PSF
The above values are within acceptable limits of recognized industry standards for similar structures and in
accordance with the 2013 California Building Code. Analysis performed on the existing roof structure utilizing the
above loading criteria indicates that the existing members will support the additional panel loading without damage,
if installed correctly.
C. Roof Structure Capacity
The photographs provided of the attic space and roof rafters show that the framing is in good
condition with no visible signs of damage caused by prior overstressing.
D. Solar Panel Anchorage
1. *The solar panels shall be mounted in accordance with the most recent "EcoFasten Solar Installation
Manual", which can be found on the EcoFasten Solar website (www.ecofastensolar.com). If during
solar panel installation, the roof framing members appear unstable or deflect non -uniformly, our
office should be notified before proceeding with the installation.
2. The solar panels are 1 '/s" thick and mounted 4 '/2' off the roof for a total height off the existing roof
of 6". At no time will the panels be mounted higher than 6" above the existing plane of the roof.
3. Roof Sections (1 and 2): Considering the roof slopes, the size, spacing, condition of the roof, the
panel supports shall be placed at and attached no greater than every third roof member as panels
are installed perpendicular across members and no greater than the panel length when installed
parallel to the members (portrait). No panel supports spacing shall be greater than three (3) spaces
or 72" o/c, whichever is less. `
4. Panel support connections shall be staggered to distribute load to adjacent members.
Based on the above evaluation, with appropriate panel anchors being'utilized the roof system will adequately
support the additional loading imposed by the solar panels. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2013
California Building Code, current industry standards and practices, and the information supplied to us at the time of
this report.

Re: Engineering Certification for the EcoFasten Rock -it System Installation Manual
This letter is to document that PZSE, Inc. -Structural Engineers has reviewed EcoFasten Rock -it System
Installation Manual published October 12, 2015 and specifically the "Loading Tables".
SCOPE OF THE SYSTEM:
The EcoFasten Rock -it System is a solar panel support system for installing solar photovoltaic arrays on sloped
roofs of buildings. Typically such buildings are residential with shingle or tile roofs. The number and spacing of
attachments to the roof structure can vary depending on various site specific criteria including, but not limited
to, roof slope, spacing of supporting structural members and environmental loading.
SCOPE OF OUR REVIEW:
PZSE, Inc.—Structural Engineers provided a review of the following
• Rock -it System design methodology
• Rock -it System Installation Manual
• Rock -it System Loading Tables
and has determined that all information, data and analysis contained within the Installation Manual are based
on, and are in compliance with, the structural requirements of the following Reference Documents:
• Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and other Structures, ASCE/SEI 7-10
• International Building Code, 2012 Edition, by International Code Council, Inc.
• . California Building Code,' 2013 Edition, by California Building Standards Commission
• . Aluminum Design Manual, 2010 Edition, by The Aluminum Association
This letter certifies that the EcoFasten Rock -it System Installation Manual and Loading Tables are in .
compliance with the above Reference Documents.

DESIGN RESPONSIBILITY:
The Rock -it System Installation Manual is intended to be used under the responsible charge of a registered
design professional where required by the authority having jurisdiction. In all cases, the user of the Installation
Manual has sole responsibility for the accuracy of the design and integrity of the system.
The Installation Manual does not check the capacity of the building structure to support the loads imposed on
the building by the array, such as bending strength of roof rafters spanning between supports. This requires
additional knowledge of the building and is outside the scope of the Installation Manual and our review.
If you have any questions on the above, do not hesitate to call.

array LAYOUT
• Find the required'structural attachment points.
Mark these using a vertical (N -S) chalk line on the
center of the rafters.
Spacing may vary depending upon project specific
structural requirements; i.e. high snow and wind
load areas may require lesser bracket spacing in
the E -W axis vs. the maximum spacing. Max spacing
is 48" for portrait orientation and 72" for landscape
orientation. Consult project layout diagram for
project specific bracket spacing on the roof.
Install Rock -It Mounts to predetermined mount
spacing.
• The array skirt sections are the width of a typical
60 cell module - use.the array skirt as a guide to
lay out module placement.
Note: The distance between the rows of mounts is calculated by the module dimension N -S plus 1 3/8"
(35mm). Lag screw should be Installed as close to center of exposed shingle as possible.
GreenFaSTen FLaSHinG insTaLL
1 Locate the rafters and snap horizontal and vertical lines to mark the installation
position for each GreenFasten flashing.
2 Drill a pilot hole (1 /4" diameter) for the lag bolt. Backfill with sealant. Eco Fasten Solar
recommends an EPDM mastic.
3 Insert the flashing so the top part.is under the next row of shingles and pushed far
enough up slope to prevent water infiltration through vertical joint in shingles. The
leading edge of flashing must butt against upper row of nails to prevent turning
when torqued.
4 Line up pilot hole with GreenFasten flashing hole.
Insert the lag bolt through the EPDM bonded washer, the Rock -It slide, the gasketed
hole in the Flashing and into the rafter.
Torque: The range is between 100-140 torque inch -pounds depending on the type
of wood and time of year. The visual indicator for proper torque is when the EPDM
on the underside of the bonded washer begins to push out the sides as the washer
compresses. If using an impact wrench to install the fasteners be careful not to over
torque the fastener. You may need to stop and use a ratchet to finish the install.

I APPLICATION: Easy to apply with conventional caulking equipment. Application temperature range: 20F —120F. it application air temperatures are below 40F, con-
dition product at 7OF prior to using for best results. Cut tip at a 45 -degree angle. Location of cut will determine desired bead thickness. Puncture seal. Apply sealant to joint.
Typically, minimum 3/8"-1/2" beads should be used for proper bonding and sealing. Fill joints in continuous beads from deepest point and avoid overlapping of sealant to
prevent air entrapment. Adhesive/sealant should wet the joint wall surfaces. With lap joints, apply adhesive/sealant to both inside and outside of joint for best results.
j Adhesive/sealant provides 1-3 hour working time before skinning. Adhesivelsealant cures with exposure to normal atmospheric moisture with full cure in 1-3 days depending
on humidity. May be used on damp surfaces; take steps to remove standing water. For best results, use opened cartridges and sausages the same day.
APPROPRIATE SURFACES: Rairouster 850

best results, apply paint over RainBuster
850 adhesive/sealant 72 hours after
application. High quality 1004E acrylic
paints and primers are recommended.
Many roofing• specific spray paints are
acceptable. Avoid the use of oil base
paints as they may exhibit a slow/non-
curing condition when in contact with
adhesive/sealant Paint when weather
and temperature conditions meet paint
manufacturer requirements. Field pre-test
for suitability of paint and painting
process is required. Contractor must
determine: suitability. Consult Top
Industrial for further information.
