Please use proper judgement and cau*on when opening a^achments, clicking links or responding to requests for informa*on. ** Dear Mayor Evans, Members of the City Council and Planning Commission Chair, My name is Robin Nugent and my husband, Bob, and I live in PGA West, on the Nicholas Tournament course near Madison. We have enjoyed the peaceful, re*red lifestyle of La Quinta and PGA West since 2004. We are very much opposed to the proposed zoning change to build this “small private development”. It is the wrong project in the wrong place at the wrong *me. Wrong Project - We are not opposed to addi*onal housing development in that area. La Quinta is special and we are happy to share. But this large, noisy, mul*-year building, glaring light-filled, only for the en*tled rich project is not the right one. Consider the op*cs of your choices. I know that you are interested in tax revenue, but there are reasons why more responsible City Councils along the CV corridor turned this project down. We are 2 hours by car to real ocean waves. We don’t live in Iowa, which is 32 hours away from a real wave. Wrong Place - Kelly Slater’s projects have been built in rural areas, not next door to mature housing Page 2 of 2 developments. What a slap in the face to we homeowners who came to La Quinta for the dark night skies, the peace and the natural beauty. Not to men*on the fact that the Quarry, Andalusia and Trilogy development homeowners can kiss their home values (homes bought with hard-earned money) goodbye. Wrong Time - Perhaps this is the most far-reaching and important argument of all. Have you read that California is in a severe drought? Farmers being cut from water in Central California, lakes at the lowest levels ever, ra*oning coming. Again, consider the op*cs of your ac*ons. Instead of blindly forging on to the beat of a few developers, listen, really listen to the voices of your cons*tuents. You have the chance as a Council to do the right thing for your community, to vote with your conscience. I find it hard to believe that deep down, you don’t have serious doubts about this project. Is now, with so much uncertainty with climate change, the right *me to take this far-reaching gamble? Listen to the people who love their community, those people who by occupa*on and trade have torn apart the Environmental Impact Report (filled with uncertainty) over and over. I urge you to vote NO on this zoning change and NO on the Wave Project in La Quinta. Very Sincerely, Robin and Bob Nugent 56134 Baltusrol La Quinta, CA 92253
