Its movement is similar to gyroscopes within gyroscopes as the entire sculpture takes on a random yet graceful spinning motion in the wind. All joints are silver-brazed by hand and precision miniature stainless steel ball bearings are used at all pivot points for friction-free movement. The sculpture’s center tube supports its 6 axes where wind-catching cups spin independently from angled stainless steel tubing. This piece reacts to gentle breezes yet withstands intense winds. The arms move in opposite directions. Its movement is reminiscent of undulating seaweed as it takes on a very graceful motion in the wind. All joints are silver- brazed by hand for extraordinary strength. Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXNQn0LHGTU&list=PLOVhoYHlzt7MJSPys1LyhWbSQKim9ao_Y $850 7 Cosmo Overall height, 14.5’. Kinetics, 6.5’ tall, 5’10” wide. Base, 8’ tall x 5’ diameter Stainless steel, steel 2019 Cosmo’s steel tower rises to support its kinetics that have 6 independent rotating elements wind powered by 24 hemispheres. This piece received an Honorarium from Burning Man Arts and was built for Burning Man 2019. It is precisely balanced and easily withstood the 50 mph playa winds. It is currently on display at the Newport Beach Sculpture Exhibition. It has five independent revolving elements using copper cones to capture even gentle breezes. Its movement is similar to gyroscopes within gyroscopes as the entire sculpture takes on a random yet graceful spinning motion in the wind. Civic Center Park, which turned nearly half a million square feet of undeveloped land into a new public park, was designed by renowned landscape architectural firm Peter Walker and Partners (PWP). The City Arts Commission determined that a rotating exhibition, in which pieces are loaned for a 2-year period, was an optimal approach to bring sculpture to the City in a cost-efficient manner. In 2013, the Newport Beach City Council authorized the City Arts Commission to implement an inaugural rotational sculpture exhibit in Civic Center Park.
