Duro -Last®
The "WORLD'S BEST ROOD"T"
Duro-Last Roofing, Inc., is the pioneer and one of the nation's largest manufacturers of custom
prefabricated roofing systems. Every Duro-Last roofing system is prefabricated in one of four Duro-Last
manufacturing plants to meet your specific roofing needs. Approximately 80% of the field seams and roughly
95% of the remaining critical areas (projections and perimeters) are welded under ideal factory conditions.
The result is a consistent, high quality roofing system designed and manufactured for each building on which
it's installed; a concept that renders other roofing systems obsolete. Our standard 40 mil membrane
outperforms other roofing products in all critical areas.
Duro-Last Roofing,.lnc., warranties are available at no additional cost and we believe are the best in the
industry. Commercial projects may be eligible for (at the choice of the building owner) either a 15 -year or 20 -
year labor and material warranty. Residential projects receive a separate 15 -year material warranty. The
warranty section in this manual covers each warranty in detail. When a commercial roof is completed, a
Duro-Last quality assurance specialist will inspect the roof for compliance with the Duro-Last specification.
Upon final inspection, acceptance, and payment of all related invoices, Duro-Last will immediately issue the
warranty to the Duro-Last contractor.
The Duro-Last roofing system meets or exceeds major national fire and wind code requirements as well
as most of the regional approvals throughout the country. Duro-Last is approved by Factory Mutual Research
Corporation (FMRC), Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL), and the major code agencies; Building Officials &
Code Administrators (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), Southern Building Code
Conference International, Inc. (SBCCI), and International Building Code (IBC).
Duro-Last participates in the major technical committees in the roofing industry including the American
Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), and the Single Ply Roofing Institute (SPRI), Cool Roof Rating Council
(CRRC), and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). In addition, Duro-Last maintains and
continually updates a highly sophisticated in-house laboratory for quality control testing for all phases of
manufacturing.
. Duro-Last and its subsidiary companies employ over 725 people, including 50 who are factory trained
quality assurance specialists strategically located throughout the country. In addition, Duro-Last has a
network of over 60 sales professionals based throughout North America.
As Duro-Last has grown into its position of distinction, several major industrial leaders, corporations and
sources of specifications throughout the country have recognized Duro-Last for its technological contributions
to the roofing industry. Duro-Last won the "State of Michigan New Product of the Year" award in 1986.
Governor Blanchard presented Duro-Last's Founder John R. Burt, with the "Small Businessman -Of -The -Year"
award in 1987. In 1991, Burt was honored with the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award for the State of
Michigan, and in 1997;1998, he was a finalist for this same award. Also in 1998, Burt received the "Vision of
Free Enterprise" award followed by a special award in 1999, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the
economy of Saginaw County. Nationally recognized roofing experts have visited the Duro-Last facility, and
have stated that its quality control procedures are the best in the roofing industry.
Duro-Last's increasing penetration into commercial and institutional sectors has generated "controlled"
growth at more than twice the rate of the roofing industry. As a result, Duro-Last has made major capital
improvements. and investments towards increased manufacturing capacity, allowing for growth and vertical
integration of manufacturing as well as improved quality control of the entire Duro-Last Roofing System.
All of this translates into a roofing system that provides the consistent watertight integrity building owners
look for. By manufacturing virtually all of the components of the roofing system in its facilities, using rigorous
quality -controlled procedures, and by providing the majority of the labor for "building" the roof system in it's
factory, Duro-Last minimizes•the liabilities commonly associated with a roofing investment. Furthermore,
Duro-Last backs it's claims by offering the most comprehensive warranty coverage in the industry. In short,
Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. is committed to the roofing industry. Duro-Last has earned the respect of the roofing
and business communities -throughout North America and has assumed a leading role in roofing
manufacturing technology. Duro-Last looks forward to providing the best solution to your roofing needs.

FOREWORD
The main •purpose of this manual is to create a better understanding of specifications and conditions for
the installation of the Duro-LastO Roofing System. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands; of different
•, installation details, and not all can be covered*. However, with a basic understanding, you will be able to.
accommodate almost any situation. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to call Duro-Last at 800-
248-0280.
This manual does not attempt to make judgments on whether or not an existing roof system should be
removed. Nor does this manual make structural judgments for weight considerations.
Use this manual as a guide for installing the Duro-Last Roofing System. It will prove itself invaluable in
achieving an installation that will provide top-notch performance, security, and longevity for the building
owner.
NOTES
1.. The Duro-Last contractor is responsible for following all applicable building, plumbing and electrical
codes.
2. The Duro--Last contractor is responsible for taking core cuts and conducting pullout tests. These tests
will be used to determine fastener type and length as.well as to determine the condition of the existing
roof deck and presence of water in the existing roof system.
3. Duro-Last does not approve the practice of roofing over existing roof systems that contain excess
moisture. This includes water that flows into openings created by core cuts or water that is obtained
by squeezing the core sample taken from the existing roof system. Any decision to recover a roof
with excessive moisture is the sole responsibility of both the installer and the building owner, and may
affect or limit warranty coverage.
4. The Duro-Last contractor is responsible for standard roofing practices, proper safety procedures, and
compliance with OSHA, as well as all state, local and other safety rules, regulations, and codes. It is
the responsibility of the roofing contractor to obtain any project building permits and insurance
necessary that are above and beyond those Duro-Last-may require.
5. The Duro-Last contractor assumes the responsibility to assure that the installed system meets or
exceeds all project specifications. The Duro-Last Roofing System is Underwriters Laboratory
classified and Factory Mutual Research approved. For these and other special conditions, consult
the DURO-LAST ENGINEERING SERVICES DEPARTMENT at 800-248-0280.
6. Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. is not responsible for any alterations to a roofing system (new or existing)
which may change the thermal characteristics or dew point of the roofing assembly.
7. The sole purpose of the Duro-Last warranty inspection process is to determine the proper application
of the Duro-Last,Roofing System. This inspection in no way extends to adjacent building components
or other areas the Duro-Last inspector may come in contact with, including but not limited to,
structural defects, architectural design or modifications made to the building by the installing
contractor. The Duro-Last inspector does not promote himself as knowledgeable about roofing or
construction practices other than the proper application of the Duro-Last Roofing System. The
ultimate goal of {he'inspection process is to determine general compliance with these specifications
and the overall watertight integrity of the roof.system.

clean, smooth, free of sharp edges,
loose debris, and standing water.
Gravel should be leveled. All
surface preparations must be done
in strict accordance with the Dilro-

Insulation: Insulation must be laid
on the deck and cut neatly around
all penetrations. It must then be
mechanically -attached with
approved fasteners according to the
Duro-Last specifications. Do not lay.
more insulation than can be covered
in the same day. Stagger the
insulation boards 50% from row
to row.
Placement: Using the roof layout
diagram, select the proper marked
and rolled premanufactured sheet of
Duro-Last membrane. Orient the
membrane so the fastening tabs are
perpendicular to the ribs or
corrugations of steel deck, or to the
width of prestressed concrete "T
slabs. Secure the membrane to the
roof deck through the fastening tab
