Hello,
My name is Alex Sands, and I am the son of a property owner at trilogy la quinta golf club. As
an avid surfer, and frequenter to the area, I personally would love to see the possibility of this
wave pool becoming a reality. I know, along with other planned wave pools in the desert, that
this will bring more revenue to the area, ESPECIALLY during the dead summertime.
Considering that the landscape in that area is somewhat below the surrounding road level,
and how far away the sound has to travel to reflect off of the mountains nearby, and with
anything built in between the road and the actual pool, I would imagine there would be little to
be heard except the occasional hoot from an excited waverider, if that... You are more likely to
be bothered by the distant sounds of Stagecoach, Coachella, or by the smoke from the local
tribes burning their trash.
It is obvious that the local residents are afraid of the 'culture' that will come along with the
wave riding, and while historically surfers are an anti-establishment, counter culture kind of
group, I don't think the old-timers who are complaining understand what surf culture has turned
into in the last 10-15 years, or even just since COVID began. It is now an Olympic sport, and a
very popular sport among a wide diversity of people all over the world. I would implore them to
not be afraid of us just because you don't understand our culture, and what it has become.
Also, despite what one local was quoted saying, there are many young 'millenials' and other
surfers who golf, not to mention the GOAT of surfing himself, Kelly Slater who plays at Pebble
Beach in tournaments on the regular.
Also, for all that are complaining about their "quiet" area going away: it takes 20 minutes just
to get there from the freeway. Only so much is going to be developed in that area, ever, and if
you would like to avoid the possibility of even more golf courses going bankrupt (like trilogy just
did), you might want to consider bringing more money into the area, despite where and who it
may be coming from.
Sincerly,
Alex Sands
