Hello Laylan,
Marcie forwarded your email over to me to assist with your request for
information. If you have any questions or would like further information, please
contact me or Nicole Criste, Consulting Planner for the City of La Quinta at
ConsultingPlanner@laquintaca.gov.
The application includes a General Plan Amendment, Zone Change, Specific
Plan, Tentative Tract Map, Site Development Permit and Development
Agreement.
The General Plan and Zone Change would add Tourist Commercial to the
south half of the property, to allow the hotel and resort uses and the wave
pool.
The Specific Plan sets the development standards and guidelines for the
entire site, including:
600 residential units
150 hotel rooms
117,000 square feet of resort and neighborhood commercial
Wave pool
Other recreation, including open space and trails
The Tentative Tract Map subdivides the property for the wave pool, 23
single family lots and the hotel properties, as well as large lots for the
residential units which would be further subdivided in the future.
The Site Development Permit is for the wave pool site plan, architecture
and landscaping.
The Development Agreement establishes the responsibilities of the
developer through the development of the entire project.
The applicant prepared an Environmental Impact Report which was reviewed by
the City, and distributed for public comment in July and August.
The project will require review and approval by the Planning Commission and
City Council. No hearings have been set, but it is expected that the Planning
Commission hearing(s) will occur before the end of the year.

Good Morning Laylan
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the proposed Kelly Slater Wave Pool.
In regards to the project, I can definitely provide the same update we have been
giving to the other media, however if you have further questions please let us
know. Danny Castro, Design & Development Director would be the point person
on this for any additional details. I can schedule a time for him to chat with you
further if needed.
Below is some information regarding the project:
The project is located directly west of the Andalusia Country Club
development, south of Avenue 58 and west of Madison Street.
The project consists of approximately:
600 residential units
150-room hotel
12-acre wave pool
60,000 sf of commercial uses
community garden
various recreational uses including golf practice facilities, trails and
tennis
Meriwether has submitted several applications including a Zone Change (ZC)
ZC proposes to add Tourist Commercial and Recreation uses to the
current Low Density Residential, Golf Course and Neighborhood
Commercial uses and remove the Golf Course use
The applications are in completeness review, where staff reviews the
submitted application and makes sure they have given us all the required
materials.
Meriwether is in the process of preparing special studies to support their
environmental documentation, including biological, cultural, air quality,
noise and traffic studies and a water supply assessment.
A Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) is being prepared to comply with
CEQA.
The project will go to Planning Commission and City Council for final
decision since a GPA, ZC and SP are requested.
Anticipated to go to public hearings late 2020/early 2021.
Please let me know if you would like to discuss further and I can look at what
works best today for Danny.
