Good Afternoon Mr. Bonafede,
In follow up to your conversation with Christina Gamez, she brought up your questions with
Code Compliance Supervisor Meredith and he suggested you may consult the City Website to
determine whether Code Compliance will address a property maintenance issue in a private
gated community: https://www.laquintaca.gov/residents/public-safety-services/code-
compliance.
Code Compliance does not address property maintenance issues inside of gated communities as
these communities have their own rules and regulations specific to them and are not accessible
to the general public by design. If the report a safety issue, we will be happy to look into it.
Supervisor Meredith also stated, regarding addressing only what is in public view, that is covered
by the U.S. Constitution under the 4th amendment. This covers people's right to be free from
unreasonable search and seizures. Code Compliance will not conduct an inspection without a
search warrant obtained with probable cause unless the area to be checked is in public view,
meaning anyone from the public can clearly view the area without violating an individual's
rights. This typically applies to enclosed areas like inside the residence or behind a fence clearly
meant to keep out.
If you have further questions, please call 760-777-7050. Thank you.

Dear Code enforcement,
The above address has had some ongoing issues.
The homeowner did some landscaping in front of his house and stopped over a year ago. Next to
this area is a 3' x 2' x 20' pile of dirt. It now has weeds growing out of it. Next to the pile of dirt
is construction debris. It includes various lengths of board and several empty wire baskets used
for transporting large amounts of rock. The house is on a cul-de-sac and he has planted several
trees along the curb that are being watered. Around the trees are 12 to 24 inches of weeds and
mostly Bermuda grass along the 45 yard curb. The grass is now growing over the curb and into
the street. And finally, not sure if this is allowed, he removed the grass along his driveway and
filled it with rock. He drives his vehicle over the curb and park sit on the rock.
The HOA has made multiple attempts to get compliance with no success. He has been fined
multiple times and ignores the CCR's.
I am not sending pictures because he has video cameras in the front of his home. If he sees me
taking pictures and then receives a letter it would not be good.
