Alena Callimanis LQRRD 919 606-6164 Perspectives from a Wellness Doctor Michael F. Roizen MD Emeritus Chief Wellness Officer, Cleveland Clinic What are the Wellness Implications of this Project at Coral Mountain • The particulates generated by this Development, during use and including during the grading, will cause inflammation which increases cancer risk, dementia risk and cardiac risk and will be substantially increased to all in the Valley • Particulates will likely hang around longer (more inflammation to all in the valley for longer) from car traffic, and from electrical generation for the wave machine • Add in the extra short term vacation rental traffic (8 —10 people in a three bedroom home for example) that will increase pollution and particulates in LQ could shorten lifespans as well What are the Wellness Implications of this Project at Coral Mountain • Our more and more frequent wind events will cause even more particulate in the air in and around this project • Those additional particulates will increase white light pollution and sleep disturbances from the lights shining on the particulates for all those who try to go to sleep prior to the 10pm end of day of the wave lights • White light pollution for all those over 50 or those who are post menopausal will make sleep more difficult for them and be associated with increased insomnia year round • Noise pollution from the wave machine will further disturb sleep and could foster dementia and memory loss of those over age 50 Dangers to Participants and Surfers in the Summer • There is danger to spectators who do not realize they are becoming dehydrated due to our extreme heat • There is danger to surfers who are over exerting themselves, with this exertion being documented due to surfing on the long artificial wave • Being in the (warm) water masks the extreme heat of the sun raising body temperature with the subsequent significant chance of heat stroke • If possible, don't hike any later than mid -morning. Heat exhaustion, dehydration, and even death can happen even when it's below 100 degrees. These Risks are Substantial to the Community at Large
