We also moved here from a part of the country where I was born & raised, the San Francisco Bay Area, that I watched in my decades there, grow from a lovely, bucolic, scenic, friendly, pollution free, traffic free area, to a pollution riddled, frenetic, constantly traffic congested, homeless overrun, crime laden, & unaffordable area, that people are now fleeing as fast as they can. A good part of the reason for the downfall of the Bay Area was the continued & continuing over -development of everything since the advent of Silicon Valley, with no REAL forethought put into the future ramifications for the surrounding infrastructure, environmental consequences, current residents of the affected communities, & so on. And yet very regrettably we move here to get AWAY from such blatant ignorance & greed, only to see the same, blind, motivations, denials, & obvious rationalizations at play in the politics in La Quinta, with even the passing consideration of re -zoning land set aside for future residential development for a gaudy, environmental nightmare that does nothing positive for the vast majority of permanent La Quinta residents, with this Wave Park. And we live in Mountain View Country Club so are not even near it. We DON'T WANT IT. Our incredulity started when the local gave it's Water Commissions egregiously stupid assessment that "water wont be an issue", regarding the Wave Park project, in the middle of the worst drought on record in our state, when we are burning down every Summer. All around us, every day on the news, other, far more responsible politicians everywhere in CA, are calling for water REDUCTION measures, a historical crisis in our water situation, the worst fire season on record yet to come, the Salton Sea is DYING because it's at record lows. And yet we are considering a project which will take millions of gallons of ADDITIONAL water, from the residents, for a project aimed at the 1%, in the middle of country in crisis precisely because of the massive schism between the "haves" & the "have not's". It is beyond my comprehension & frankly appalling, that anyone with the power to do so, is even remotely considering moving this project ahead. I'm sure you are all very intelligent people so I wont insult you by even considering that any of the above mentioned FACTS may have just skipped your notice. And you "just weren't aware" La Quinta is in the desert. Everyone who chooses to visit or purchase here knows that. If someone wants to surf they can go to the ocean. Which is just over the mountains. There is no need to build a fake ocean for the rich, & then try to pretend to anyone here that there is ANYTHING redeeming about it, other than for the Schwab's, the developer, & anyone else investing in it or connected to it who will make $$$$ off it, & assuage their greedy nature at the expense of those who live here. The mere consideration of this project makes those who ARE even remotely considering it, look like exactly what they are, blind, selfish, opportunists, who can't see the forest for the trees. And apparently those of us who know that are not the only ones who feel that way. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/daphne-bramham-forget-the-climate-emergency-lets-just-have-fun And the sad thing is, that even if this project IS approved to be pushed forward by both the Planning Commission as well as the City Council, it will continue to meet massive residential resistance, as there are enough of us with very deep pockets of our own, who are SO vehemently opposed to it, as well as organized, that already have attorneys & injunctions lined up should it become necessary, that this project will become a legal nightmare for all involved.
