FIRE SPRINKLER PLAN REVIEW - REVISIONS
REQUIRED:
The Riverside County Fire Dept. has reviewed
your fire sprinkler plans and the following
revisions are required before approval is granted.
1.) Fire Sprinkler submittal for the Commons
Building shall be submitted under a separate
submittal and shall be installed under NFPA 13.
This means it will require to have a PIV/FDC
appliance in accordance with the governing
standard. The plan shows a residential RPDA
backflow that is not required. Please clarify on
under separate permit.
2.) NFPA 13R and the California Fire Code
requires a listed control valve that is capable of
being monitored due to a single service being
provided for fire protection (and not a
combinations domestic/fire protection.) Please
add appliance being installed on detail.
4.) Fire riser detail shows a 1'' check valve.
Please correct to appropriate 1 1/4" diameter
which is compatible with fire system's piping.
5.) Hydraulic calculations do not show a 20X20
spacing that is proposed for single compartment
coverage. Please provide hydraulic calculation for
most remote 20X20 spacing for each system.
NOTE: The only backflow device that is required is
at the point of connection at the street to the
beginning point of the fire service main. Show
proper double detector check on underground
details (FP6) or clarify.

The sprinkler plans you submitted for the above
referenced project have been reviewed by
Riverside County Fire Department - Office of the
Fire Marshal personnel and are approved with
the following conditions.
1.) Permanently marked identification signs shall
be attached to all control valves.
2.) Fire department connection (if required) shall
be installed on the access side of the structure
and shall be painted red in color for corrosion
resistance.
3.) A spare head box with the minimum required
heads and appropriate wrench(es) shall be
installed at fire sprinkler riser.
4.) A hydraulic calculation plate shall be installed
at fire sprinkler riser with appropriate values.
5.) Fire sprinkler riser compartment shall be
properly labeled on exterior side of room.
6.) Fire sprinkler control valve(s) shall be locked in
the open position.
7.) Fire sprinkler bell shall be properly labeled
proper signage - “IF BELL RINGS DIAL 911.”
SUBJECT TO FIELD INSPECTION - Nothing in our
review shall be construed as encompassing
structural integrity. Review of this plan does not
authorize or approve any omission or deviation

The following inspections/tests are required to be
witnessed by Office of the Fire Marshal Staff:
(a) Overhead Rough and Hydro static test: All
piping shall be visible and pumped at normal
operating pressure. *No jacketed electrical and
data wiring shall be in contact with, nor have the
potential to contact CPVC piping once insulation
is installed.
(b) Final inspection
The Fire Department approved plans and
conditions letter must be at the job site.
Applicant/installer shall be responsible to contact
the Fire Department to schedule inspections.
Requests for inspections are to be made at least
72 hours in advance and may be arranged by
calling (760)777-7131.
All questions regarding the meaning of these
conditions should be referred to the Office of the
Fire Marshal staff at (760)777-7074.
