We contacted the superintendent to clarify if there were plans to upgrade, which there is not. 1a) I am requiring at least one bucket test to be performed to confirm the operational adequacy of the 3/4" WM. Bedroom 2 can reasonably no longer be considered a (2) head 20x20 room as there is a 6-inch soffit at the room entry, effectively separating into 2 ceiling heights (compartments) each served by a single head. Minimum 18x18 spacing demand is still necessary here. 1b) I am suggesting (1) head bucket test at this single most remote head needing to meet 18x18 demand requirements. 1c) I am further suggesting (2) bucket test at the 2 heads located in the hall leading to Bedroom 2. Measurement will need to be taken of these 2 heads to identify minimum demand requirements. *Typically 3/4 WM will not allow adequate flow for more than 16x16 (2) head calc. 2) Closet for Bedroom 3 measured 5'x6' and therefore requires a head to be added. FIRE FINAL**KHET 5/13/2020 5/13/2020 APPROVED WITH BUCKET TEST 2-head bucket test revealed 20.8 gpm from each head, meeting the 20x20 spacing required by the 18'9" spacing observed in the remote hallway. (3/4 WM)Replaced 1 of 2 gauges on the riser due to continuous pressure difference between them of 10-15 psi.92 psi static at riser.1-head bucket test revealed 29.3 gpm, meeting the 20x20 spacing required for the room. DESCRIPTION Viking Freedom® Residential Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK494 is a small thermosensitive, glass-bulb residential sprinkler designed for installation on concealed pipe systems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired. The orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.9 (70.6 metric*), allows the sprinkler’s efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection system. The fast response glass bulb operating element and special deflector characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards. The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low-profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. The “push-on”, “thread-off” design of the concealed cover plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to 1/2” (13 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. The Electroless Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in corrosive atmospheres and is C-UL-US-EU Listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Charts. The ENT finish is only available for the sprinkler assembly, the cover plate is not plated. 2. OPERATION During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches, releasing the deflector. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand, causing the glass to shatter, releasing the yoke and pip cap and sealing spring assembly. . Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pres-sure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire. 6. OPERATION During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the fusible element to disengage, releasing the sealing assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the flow shaper, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pressure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire. 6. INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements. 7. Alternately, an anaerobic sealant may be utilized. • Thoroughly mix the thread sealant prior to application. • Apply a thick even coat to the male threads only. Best application is achieved with a brush stiff enough to force sealant down to the root of the threads. 3) Joint Makeup • For sizes up to and including 2" pipe, wrench tight makeup is considered three full turns past handtight. Handtight engagement for 1⁄2" through 2" thread varies from 41⁄2 turns to 5 turns. • For 2 1⁄2" through 4" sizes, wrench tight makeup is considered two full turns past handtight. Handtight engagement for 2 1⁄2" through 4" thread varies from 51⁄2 turns to 63⁄4 turns. The unit may also be used as a sectional waterfl ow detector on large systems. The unit contains two single pole double throw snap action switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated when a fl ow of 10 gallons per minute (38 LPM) or more occurs downstream of the device. The fl ow condition must exist for a period of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period. Enclosure The VSR-S switches and retard device are enclosed in a general purpose, die-cast housing. The cover is held in place with two tamper resistant screws which require a special key for removal. A fi eld installable cover tamper switch is available as an option which may be used to indicate unauthorized removal of the cover. See bulletin number 5401103 for installation instructions of this switch. Installation These devices may be mounted in horizontal or vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" (15cm) of a valve, drain or fi tting which changes the direction of the waterfl ow. Select the proper paddle for the pipe size and type of TEE used see Fig. 1 for instructions on changing paddle. The unit has a 1" NPT bushing for threading into a non-corrosive TEE. See Fig. 2 for proper TEE size, type and installation. Use no more than three wraps of tefl on tape. Screw the device into the TEE fi tting as shown in Fig. 2. Care must be taken to properly orient the device for the direction of waterfl ow. The vane must not rub the inside of the TEE or bind in any way. The stem should move freely when operated by hand. Please use proper judgement and caution when opening attachments, clicking links or responding to requests for information. ** Hi there – good morning to you. So, this permit is most likely expired – we, and the contractor, thought we had done a sprinkler final back in December before Christmas – he even paid us in full on 12/12 Apparently it didn’t get logged – or didn’t pass – or something… Please extend the permit – let me know when we can go online and pay it and then let’s schedule ASAP… Thanks L Linda J.
