1. deScrIpTIoN
Viking Freedom® Residential Concealed Horizontal Sidewall Sprinkler VK480
is a small high-sensitivity solder link and lever residential sprinkler designed for
installation on concealed pipe systems, where the appearance of a smooth wall
is desired. The sprinkler orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.0 (57.7 metric*),
allows the sprinkler’s efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically
designed fire-protection system. The operating element and special deflector
characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards. The special
Electroless Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in
corrosive atmospheres and is listed/approved as corrosion resistant as indicated
in the Approval Chart.
The sprinkler is hidden from view by a low profile, small diameter cover plate
installed flush to the wall. The cover plate is available in several decorative
finishes to meet design requirements. The two-piece design allows installation
and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. After the system
has been tested and wall finish has been applied, the push-on design of the cover
plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate with up to 1/4” (6.4 mm)
adjustment. Sprinkler VK480 is provided with a pipe guide to properly locate the
sprinkler and allow the 1/4” adjustment of the cover plate.

During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches.
Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the fusible element to disengage, releasing the sealing assembly. Water flowing
through the sprinkler orifice strikes the flow shaper, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined
by the water supply pressure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire.
6. INSpecTIoNS, TeSTS ANd mAINTeNANce
Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements.
7. AVAILAbILITy

1. description
Viking Freedom® Residential Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK494 is a small thermosensitive, glass-bulb residential sprinkler designed for installation on concealed pipe systems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired. The orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.9 (70.6 metric*), allows the sprinkler’s efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection system. The fast response glass bulb operating element and special deflector characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards.
The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low-profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. The “push-on”, “thread-off” design of the concealed cover plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to 1/2” (13 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. The Electroless Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in corrosive atmospheres and is C-UL-US-EU Listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Charts. The ENT finish is only available for the sprinkler assembly, the cover plate is not plated.

Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards.
5. operation
During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches, releasing the deflector. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand, causing the glass to shatter, releasing the yoke and pip cap and sealing spring assembly. . Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pres-sure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire.

1. description
Viking Mirage® Quick Response Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK465 is a thermo-
sensitive glass-bulb spray sprinkler designed for installation on concealed pipe sys-
tems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired.
The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low-
profile cover assembly that provides up to ½” (12.7 mm) of vertical adjustment. The
two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of
the cover plate. The “push-on”, “thread-off” design of the concealed cover plate assem-
bly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the
ceiling finish has been applied. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled,
allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out
of service or removing the sprinkler.

4. installation
Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards.
5. operation
During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches.
Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand and the bulb to shatter,
releasing the yoke, pip-cap and sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the sprinkler deflector,
forming a uniform spray pattern to extinguish or control the fire.
6. inspections, tests and maintenance
Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements.

4. installation
Refer to appropriate NFPA Installation Standards.

4. installation
7. availability

The Fire Sprinkler plans you submitted for the above referenced project have been reviewed by
the Riverside County Fire Department and are require revisions. Please review the corrections
below and re-submit your plans providing a response/clarifying/correcting the listed items:
1.) Provide fire flow letter from water district or water meter charge estimate form from local
water purveyor to verify available water volume and pressure for fire sprinkler system’s
design. If fire flow letter is to be utilized, provide water meter’s date specifications to verify
friction loss caused by the water meter that is to be installed.
2.) The fire sprinkler head design is calling for a 3 head calculation when only a 2 head
calculation is required per NFPA 13D. Please clarify.
All questions regarding the meaning of these corrections should be referred to the Office of the
Fire Marshal staff at (760)777-7074.
