1. DESCRIPTION
Viking Freedom® Residential Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK496 is a small thermosensitive, glass-bulb residential sprinkler designed for installation on concealed pipe systems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired. The orifice design, with a K-Factor of 3.0 (43.2 metric*), allows the sprinkler’s efficient use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection system. The fast response glass bulb operating element and special deflector characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards.
The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a low-profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation of the cover plate. The “The “push-on” and “thread-on” designs of the concealed cover plate assemblies allow easy installation of the cover plate after the system has been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to 1/2” (13 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. The Electroless Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in corrosive atmospheres and is C-UL-US-EU Listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the Approval Charts. The ENT finish is only available for the sprinkler assembly, the cover plate is not plated.

5. OPERATION
During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches, releasing the deflector. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand, causing the glass to shatter, releasing the yoke and pip cap and sealing spring assembly. Water flowing through the sprinkler orifice strikes the deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pressure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire.

1. DESCRIPTION
Viking Freedom® Residential Concealed Pendent Sprinkler VK494 is a small
thermosensitive, glass-bulb residential sprinkler designed for installation on
concealed pipe systems where the appearance of a smooth ceiling is desired. The
orifice design, with a K-Factor of 4.9 (70.6 metric*), allows the sprinkler’s efficient
use of available water supplies for the hydraulically designed fire-protection
system. The fast response glass bulb operating element and special deflector
characteristics meet the challenges of residential sprinkler standards.
The sprinkler is pre-assembled with a threaded adapter for installation with a
low-profile small-diameter cover assembly installed flush to the ceiling. The two-
piece design allows installation and testing of the sprinkler prior to installation
of the cover plate. The “push-on”, “thread-off” design of the concealed cover
plate assembly allows easy installation of the cover plate after the system has
been tested and the ceiling finish has been applied, while also providing up to
1/2” (13 mm) of vertical adjustment. The cover assembly can be removed
and reinstalled, allowing temporary removal of ceiling panels without taking
the sprinkler system out of service or removing the sprinkler. The Electroless
Nickel PTFE (ENT) coating has been investigated for installation in corrosive
atmospheres and is C-UL-US-EU Listed as corrosion resistant as indicated in the
Approval Charts. The ENT finish is only available for the sprinkler assembly, the
cover plate is not plated.

5. OPERATION
During fire conditions, when the temperature around the sprinkler approaches its operating temperature, the cover plate detaches,
releasing the deflector. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the heat-sensitive liquid in the glass bulb to expand,
causing the glass to shatter, releasing the yoke and pip cap and sealing spring assembly. . Water flowing through the sprinkler
orifice strikes the deflector, forming a uniform spray pattern over a specific area of coverage determined by the water supply pres-
sure at the sprinkler to extinguish or control the fire.
6. INSPECTIONS, TESTS AND MAINTENANCE
Refer to NFPA 25 for Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements.
7. AVAILABILITY

Re: Residential Fire Sprinkler Plan Review – LENOX/VASILOPOULOS RESIDENCE
FSS2021-0008 / 77660 CALLE POTRERO, LA QUINTA, CA 92253
The sprinkler plans you submitted for the above referenced project have been reviewed by Riverside County
Fire Department - Office of the Fire Marshal personnel and require the following corrections:
[1]Hydraulic calculations do not utilize the correct residual and flow pressures provided by CVWD for
the water supply. CVWD automatically calculates for the friction loss through the water meter
assembly. It is acceptable to establish the supply as the discharge of the water meter based on the
provided information with no additional water meter losses equated.
[a]Hydraulic Calculations have been revised Accordingly. Thank you for clarifying the CVWD
water information provided.
[2]For the 16x16 spacing hydraulic calculations a revised water supply vs. demand curve was
calculated from the WM node and the prospective flow and pressure. It identified a demand that
exceeds 90% of the documented water supply. REFERENCE LQ AMENDMENT – CFC 903.3.5.3
[a]The new calculations and sprinkler spacing have been revised to meet the 10% reduction and
the Max GPM of the existing water meter.
All questions regarding the meaning of these conditions should be referred to the Office of the Fire Marshal
staff at (760)777-7074.

The sprinkler plans you submitted for the above referenced project have been reviewed by Riverside County
Fire Department - Office of the Fire Marshal personnel and require the following corrections:
[1] Hydraulic calculations do not utilize the correct residual and flow pressures provided by CVWD for
the water supply. CVWD automatically calculates for the friction loss through the water meter
assembly. It is acceptable to establish the supply as the discharge of the water meter based on the
provided information with no additional water meter losses equated.
[2] For the 16x16 spacing hydraulic calculations a revised water supply vs. demand curve was
calculated from the WM node and the prospective flow and pressure. It identified a demand that
exceeds 90% of the documented water supply. REFERENCE LQ AMENDMENT – CFC 903.3.5.3
