System installation and sprinkler trim finish
was all good.
Issue is the 3/4" WM supply is flowing a very
low residual pressure during the main drain
test - 25 psi. All valves were confirmed fully
open. Believed to be issue on CVWD water
main to supply connection as seen in
multiple other projects sporadically. CVWD
Investigations had previously revealed not
fully cut-out coupons on the hot-taps, which
may be the case here.

Bucket Test Procedure – by FSS Kohl Hetrick
Contractor to provide (2) 30G+ bins pre-marked at preferably 1gal intervals. Bins are placed at each of the design
area fire sprinklers. These head locations are provided with an adapter extending down from the ceiling level and
provided with a 1/4 turn .5-inch ball valve. The piping for this adapter shall not be greater than the pipe serving that
particular head (i.e. 3/4”).
An additional 5gal bucket is provided for measuring domestic demand at spigot nearest fire riser.
Inspector will be at riser and domestic spigot with contractor, stopwatch ready. Helper(s) will be at the 2 design
heads. Through communication on phone or radio, signal “All Start.” Everyone turns on their valves and stopwatch
is started.
Once the 5gal bucket at Dom spigot is at reasonable max fill, signal “All Stop”. Everyone closes valves and stopwatch
is stopped.
Inspect the volumes acquired in the 2 bins at the sprinkler heads.
For the common K4.9 factor head doing a maximum 16x16 spacing, a minimum 13gpm needs to be provided to the
most remote/demanding head(s).
