See Continuation Sheet for significance and integrity conclusions. *B6. Construction History: The 78136 Francis (Frances) Hack Lane property was constructed in 1952. The building was constructed as the station house for the local fire department. The building is first depicted in historic aerial images from 1954. The 1954 image does not give a detailed view of the building, however, it appeared to exhibit a square building footprint. A large garage was added on the east side of the property. This garage was then connected to the fire house when a breezeway between the two buildings was filled in. This construction is likely the work described in permits from 1976, wherein the property owner, Riverside County Fire Department, obtained a permit to construct an addition to the fire station garage (Permit No. 280748). In 2012, the property owner, the City of La Quinta, obtained a permit for the replacement of Sprint communications equipment with the work completed by Solex Contracting (Permit No. 12-1063). In 2017, property owner, La Quinta SPC, obtained a permit for the intallation of three antenas, three RRU, and cable fiber with the work completed by Aliantel Inc. (Permit No. BELC2015-0026). In 2019, property owner Global Signal Acquisitions, obtainted a permit for an antenna change out with the work completed by The W Corporation DBA Vantage Company (Permit BELC2018-0128). While additions have altered the original form of the building, the changes after initial construction are compatible but differentiated from historic material. *B7. Statement of Significance Continued: La Quinta initially had a volunteer fire department, chartered in 1952. The station house for the La Quinta Volunteer Fire Department is located at the city maintenance yard on Frances Hack Lane, formerly known as (Old) Avenue 52. The street was renamed for an influential local figure Frances Hack, though multiple property databases appear to have the street name listed as Francis Hack. The firehouse facility was built to look like a residential home with two large driveways for equipment and a flagpole to indicate it was a firehouse. The firehouse is associated with the themes of Residential Development (1934-1970s) and Commercial Development (1934-1970s) as a public facility dedicated to the service of La Quinta residents and business owners. Within the theme of Commercial Development, the firehouse is directly associated with the subtheme of early civic development in La Quinta, as it is one of the few extant civic properties dating to the mid-20th century within the city. The property possesses individual documented signficance in relation to these themes. The current survey found that the property retains its integrity from the historic period. The property is assigned the 3S, 3SC, and 5S2 status codes: appears eligible for NR individually through survey evaluation, appears eligible for CR individually through survey evaluation, and individually eligible for local listing or designation. The dwelling is eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it is associated with the early development, maintenance, and support of La Quinta's local residences and businesses during the post-war period. It is not individually eligible under Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. Alterations over time have expanded the footprint of the original building, but these additions are clearly defined and do not negatively impact the overal historic integrity of the building. B10.
