77821 Chihuahua (Calle) DPR 523L (09/2013) Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-137 Date Constructed: 1951 UTM Zone: 11S, 564363 mE / 3724844 mN Neighborhood: The Cove Tract: Santa Carmelita Unit No 20; Recorded February 28, 1938, MB 19/38 Owner and Address: John Jarman; 1177 Valencia Drive, Escondido CA 92025 Updated Description: During the previous survey, the residence was incorrectly addressed at 77849 Calle Chihuahua. The 77821 Calle Chihuahua was photographed and described in the prior survey. The single family home at 77821 Calle Chihuahua is constructed in the Tract Ranch style. The home features a flat roof with exposed beams. There is a covered carport extending from the building, creating an asymmetrical roofline. The front elevation is clad in wood siding with decorative masonry siding at the base. At the front elevation, there is one large picture window, and large square glass block window. The main entrance is at the side elevation, enclosed behind a wood privacy fence. At the west elevation there is a large stone chimney. Defining characteristics of a tract ranch home that can be seen in the subject property are: a wide horizontal massing, a single-story form, a low pitch roof with deep overhang, an attached carport, and a stone chimney facing the street. According to assessors parcel data, the subject property was constructed in 1951 (Riverside Country Property Search). The subject property can first be seen in historic aerial images from 1953. Historic aerial images show a small addition at the rear, first seen in historic aerials from 1965. Historic aerial images from 1978 shows another rear addition to the property. In 1979, property owner P. Witeelek, obtained a permit construct a detached garage (Permit No. 335154). In 1989, property owner Jean hays obtained a permit to install gas piping with work completed by Maple Lead Plumbing (Permit No. 05337). Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934- 1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. While the dwelling is located within the proposed La Quinta Cove Historic District, it is a non-contributor due to its architectural style / date of construction. The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. As the dwelling has not been substantially altered, this dwelling maintains integrity from the historic period.
