The City of La Quinta is looking for interested citizens to fill
vacancies on the following City Boards and Commissions to
serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2027.
Arts and Community Services Commission — Vacancies: 3
Primary functions are to review and make recommendations
to the City Council on services and programs pertaining to
cultural arts, funding opportunities for cultural programs
and activities, public events and signature city events,
services and programs for outdoor amenities and public
spaces, such as city owned parks and biking and hiking trails
and to facilitate coordination with local recreation and
service organizations, such as non-profit agencies and
outdoor groups. Meetings are held quarterly on the 2nd
Monday of March, June, September, and December, at 4:00
p.m.; special meetings may be scheduled on an as needed
basis.
Housing Commission — Vacancies: 4
Primary -functions -are -to -review and make recommendations
to the Housing Authority on matters regarding housing,
policy procedures, proposals, and programs. Meetings are
held quarterly on the 2nd Wednesday of March, June,
September, and December, at 5:00 p.m.; special meetings
may be scheduled on an as needed basis.
Financial Advisory Commission — Vacancies: 4
Primary functions are to review the City's financial policies
and recommend appropriate changes; review monthly trea-
sury reports and note compliance with the financial policies
and adequacy of cash and investments for anticipated obliga-
tions; receive and consider other treasurer reports; meet
with the independent auditor after completion of the annual
audit of the City's financial statements, and receive and
consider the independent auditor's comments on auditing
procedures, internal controls, and findings for cash and
investment activities; review annual revenue derived from
the 1% transactions and use tax, instituted by voters in
November 2016, to ensure funds are used to provide services,
programs and capital proiects; serve as a resource for the
City Treasurer on proposed —investments, internal controls,
use of change of financial institutions, custodians, brokers
and dealers. A background in finance and/or securities with
knowledge and/or experience in markets, financial controls,
and accounting is preferred, however, the City encourages a
diverse candidate pool with general business backgrounds as
well. Meetings are AeId quarterly, generally on the 2nd
Wednesday of February, May, August, and November at 4:00
p.m.; special meetings may be scheduled on an as needed
basis.
Planning Commission — Vacancies: 3
Primary function is to carry out the powers and duties as
prescribed in the Planning and Zoning Laws of the State of
California pursuant to Section 65100 et seq. and the City's
Zoning Ordinance, as well as to serve as an advisory body to
the City Council. Additional responsibilities include develop-
ing and maintaining the City's General Plan, and considera-
tion of specific plans, zoning amendments, and new develop-
ment applications for zoning compliance, architectural and
landscape design. Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tues-
day of each month at 5:00 p.m.; special meetings may be
scheduled on an as needed basis.
Palm Springs Airport Commission — Vacancy: 1
Primary function is to advise the City Council on matters
concerning the Palm Springs Airport, including areas of
acquisition, development, financing and lease arrangements,
present and future operations plans, and financial status.
Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at
5:30 p.m.
Construction Board of Appeals — Vacancy: 1
Primary function is to conduct hearings to give appellants
the opportunity to present evidence on their behalf in an
effort to reverse or amend an administrative decision of a
city official related to any matter within the purview of Title
8 — Buildings and Construction of the La Quinta Municipal
Code. The Board meets on an "as needed" basis.
Coachella Valley Conservation Commission (CVCC) -
Trails Management Subcommittee — Vacancies: 2
The CVCC established a Trails Management Subcommittee
in 2008 to annually review and evaluate the Public Use and
Trails Plan for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains,
and to provide input on trails issues related to the Coachella
Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (Plan) to
the CVCC.
The CVCC is a joint powers authority of elected representa-
tives that overseas and manages the Plan, which is a shared
regional vision for balanced growth to conserve Coachella
Valley's natural resources while also building a strong econ-
omy vital to our future; it protects 240,000 acres of open
space and 27 species, enhances infrqstructure without envi-
ronmental conflicts, offers opportunities for recreation,
tourism and lob creation, and ensures the survival of endan-
gered species. The CVCC has no regulatory powers and no
land use authority. Its primary purpose is to buy land from
willing sellers in the conservation areas and to manage that
land.
Interested citizens may submit an application or obtain addi-
tional information on each Board and Commission on the

Deadline for application submittals is June 19, 2024.
Interviews will be conducted by the City Council/Housing
