Codes and Standards Work, materials, and installation shall comply with all pertinent codes, regulations, and industry standards of workmanship. B. License All work shall be performed by a C-27 California licensed Landscape Contractor. C. Permits and Inspections 1. The Landscape Contractor shall obtain, coordinate, and pay for any permits, fees, and agency inspections as required and submit all certificates of approval upon completion of work. 2. The Landscape Contractor is responsible for submitting necessary plans to the Agriculture Department for approval. D. Insurance The Landscape Contractor shall carry all Workers' Compensation, public liability and property damage insurance as required by all applicable codes, regulations, and the General Contractor. E. Site Verification Prior to commencement of work, the Landscape Contractor shall verify, at the site, all conditions and dimensions shown on the plan necessary to achieve the intended design of the planting plan. Any discrepancies shall be reported immediately to the Landscape Designer/General Contractor. F. Coordination The Landscape Contractor is responsible for coordinating this work with all other trades. All planting work shall be coordinated with and approved by the General Contractor. G. Adherence to Drawings / On Site Adjustments The Landscape Contractor is responsible for strict adherence to the contract documents. All plants, products, and materials shall be provided as indicated on the documents. Any changes or substitutions must be approved by the Landscape Designer/General Contractor in writing. Landscape Contractor shall take full responsibility for adjustments to any material or work that is not approved. H. Personnel Planting shall be performed by personnel familiar with planting procedures and under the supervision of a qualified planting foreman. The planting foreman shall be on the job, at the site, whenever planting is in progress. I. Machinery Landscape Contractor shall provide/use proper machinery for tree placement and planting. A crane must be used for: 1) Any tree 36" box or larger; 2) Palms 6' or larger (brown trunk height) unless otherwise approved by Landscape Designer. N. Submittals by Landscape Contractor 1. Soil Tests It is the responsibility of the Landscape Contractor to inform the Landscape Designer/General Contractor of any adverse soil conditions on site. To insure proper soil conditions for planting, the Landscape Contractor shall submit several soil samples, from random locations on site, for analysis to: Soil and Plant Laboratory in Santa Ana, CA (714) 558-8333 or LandTech, 136 Main Street, El Segundo, CA 90245, (310) 322-2440. Results of testing shall be delivered to the Landscape Designer/General Contractor for approval prior to commencing with soil preparation. 2.10 PLANT MATERIAL A. All plants shall be as listed in the legend and installed per details and specifications. B. All plant material shall be full healthy, shapely, disease and insect free, and of a size that is standard for the nursery industry. C. All plant material shall have been grown under climatic conditions comparable to those of the subject site, unless otherwise specifically approved by the Landscape Designer. D. All plants are subject to approval by the Landscape Designer. E. Location of all plant material sized 15 gallon and larger to be approved prior to installation. F. To facilitate proper placement, each plant shall come from the nursery identified by botanical name. G. Sod shall be approved as to the variety and source. Verify with Landscape Designer prior to installation. H. Plant quantities listed in legend are approximate and for Landscape Contractor's convenience All plant quantities shall conform to the planting plan. I. Landscape Contractor to be responsible for obtaining all permits, bonds, licenses, etc. J. Landscape Contractor to be responsible for watering plant material installed prior to installation of the water meter and connection of the irrigation system thereto. K. Landscape Contractor to maintain all landscaping for a period of 60 to 90 days after final acceptance by the Landscape Designer. K. Frequency of maintenance during this time depends on the landscape installed. 3.00 IMPLEMENTATION 3.01 PREPARATION The Landscape Contractor shall clean and clear the site as necessary prior to planting. All area to be planted shall be free of debris of all types including plaster chips, concrete spillage, chemicals in soil, nails and fasteners, etc. 3.02 FINISH GRADING A. Finish grade all planting areas to a smooth and even condition, making certain that no water pockets or irregularities remain. Slope all planted and grass areas a minimum 1/4 inch per 1 foot per plan and away from buildings. All planting areas shall be finish graded to comply with contours and elevations shown or noted on planting plan/grading plan. B. Hold all finish grades for planted, gravel, or cobble areas a minimum 1 1/2" below adjacent flatwork or as directed by the Landscape Architect/General Contractor. C. All areas to be planted in turf shall be smoothed with rakes and floats to the satisfaction of the Landscape Architect/General Contractor. Hold finish grade for sod areas 1 1/2" below adjacent flatwork unless instructed otherwise. D. Remove all objects such as rocks, debris, clods, or other extraneous material from the topsoil and transport away from job site. E. Refer to additional grading and drainage specifications in Construction Manual. A. The Landscape Contractor shall stake all centers of tree hole locations and locate stakes as dimensioned on plan or scale from plan. Stakes shall be wood, a minimum of 36" long, and labeled with tree name. Staking shall not be done until all site work that affects tree planting in any way is either placed or lined out. This includes but is not limited to mounding, boulder and stepping pad placement, headers, flatwork, and walls. B. Landscape Designer will review and approve all stake locations prior to any hole dig. Landscape Contractor shall notify Landscape Designer a minimum of 2 working days prior to staking completion. Note: Trees include any plant listed as such in the plant legend. 3.06 EXCAVATION A. Excavation for all plants shall be per detail. B. Landscape Contractor shall notify Landscape Designer/General Contractor of any obstruction or hard, impervious sub —soil conditions immediately. C. In areas of hard soil, plant holes shall be square in shape. 3.11 CLEAN UP A. During construction, the Landscape Contractor shall keep premises as clear as possible of materials and debris. B. Upon completion of the work under this section, the Landscape Contractor shall remove from the premises all surplus materials, tools, equipment, rubbish, and debris resulting from his work, and shall leave the installation site in a clean, neat condition. 4.00 MAINTENANCE The Landscape Contractor shall provide for 90 days maintenance after the job is totally completed and has been accepted by the Landscape Designer. At the end of the maintenance period, a final inspection shall be made by the Landscape Designer as related to the maintenance. 3.08 PLANTING A. Thoroughly mix 2" of soil amendment into top 6" of all areas planted in grass and shrub/groundcovers. Exceptions are noted on the planting plan. B. Add 'Terra —Sorb' to all annual beds, pots, and planters with bubblers. 'Terra —Sorb' available through: Industrial Services International, Inc. P.O. Box 10834 Bradenton, Florida 34282-0834 1-800-227-6728 or 813-792-7778 C. All plant holes except those for cacti and succulents shall be thoroughly watered prior to setting the plant in the hole. D. All trees shall be placed, adjusted, and planted under the direction of the Landscape Designer. Landscape Contractor shall notify Landscape Designer a minimum of 3 working days prior to the tree planting date. If deemed necessary by Landscape Designer, Landscape Contractor shall relocate/replant any tree planted without Landscape Designers direction unless otherwise approved and shall be responsible for the health of the tree and the cost of the relocation. E. Install all plant per planting details in locations approved by the Landscape Designer/General Contractor. F. Set plant in upright position in the center of the hole and compact the backfill mixture around the ball of G. Place fertilizer tablets in backfill mix per planting detail. Fertilizer Plant Tab Schedule: 1 gallon = 1 tablet 5 gallon = 3 tablets 15 gallon = 8 tablets Plants in boxes = 1 tablet for each foot of height. Landscape Contractor shall verify with Landscape Designer Plant Tab Schedule for desert/arid zone plants prior to planting. H. Thoroughly water each plant when the hole is 2/3 full. After watering, tamp the soil in place until the surface of the backfill is level with the surrounding area and the crown of the plant is at the finished grade of the surrounding area. I. Remove all containers, boxes, straps, non —essential stakes, trellises, etc. from plants and remove from J. Treat all planted areas, gravel, and rock/cobble areas with pre —emergent weed agent per manufacturer's specifications. only. K. Apply granular fertilizer in all planting areas, except cacti/succulent, at the rate of 18 lbs. per 1000 square feet of planting area.
