One item that has changed significantly is the R value to be used in seismic design of cantilevered fence walls. Traditionally a value of 3 has been used but the ASCE 7-16 requires an R value of 1.25. This results in a 240% increase of the seismic forces applied to cantilevered fence walls. Because Proto-II walls are less heavy than conventional masonry, wind speeds still control the design.
