We assumed this would happen, and in all fairness, we should have shown it on the plans. We designed the footing; it would only make sense if the bars tied the oven structure to the footing. We apologize for not making that clear. We see roughly #4 bar @ 18"o.c. extending vertically in the image, which we would have recommended for the walls that will form the wood storage bins under the oven. As one of the principals at Patrell Engineering, I approve of the vertical bars shown in the image attached. The bars can be lapped with additional bars to bend into the shelf once the block is placed and before grouting. This pattern is OK to continue forward.
