COILS SHOULD NOT BE ROLLED OVER SHARP OBJECTS OR PULLED OVER ROUGH SURFACES. STRINGING OF STRAIGHT LENGTHS SHOULD BE DONE BY LIFTING THE PIPE FROM THE TRUCK TO THE GROUND. THE PIPE SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM ROCKS OR OTHER ABRASIVE MATERIAL DURING THIS OPERATION AND SHOULD NOT BE DROPPED FROM A HEIGHT. 3.COILED PE PIPE IS CONFINED WITH STRAPS AT INTERVALS WITHIN THE COILS. AS THE PIPE IS UNCOILED, ONLY THE OUTSIDE STRAPS SHOULD BE CUT. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AVOID KINKING THE PIPE. THE PIPE SHOULD NOT BE UNCOILED FASTER THAN THE STRAPS CAN BE CUT. 4.PE PIPE SHALL BE CAREFULLY INSPECTED FOR KINKS, GOUGES, DEEP SCRATCHES, PUNCTURES, AND OTHER IMPERFECTIONS AFTER EACH OF THE HANDLING OPERATIONS. PE PIPE MUST BE REPAIRED OR REJECTED IF DEFECTS OR DAMAGE EXCEED 10% OF THE WALL THICKNESS OF THE PIPE. 5.WELDING SHOULD NEVER BE DONE CLOSE TO PE PIPE WITHOUT PROTECTING THE PIPE WITH A HEAT-RESISTING BAFFLE OR A WET RAG. WELDING ON PIPE CONNECTED AND IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO PLASTIC PIPE MUST BE DONE SO AS TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF DIRECTING SPARKS OR HOT MATERIAL INTO THE PLASTIC FROM INSIDE THE PIPE. INSTALLATION 1.THE AGE OF THE PIPE SHALL BE VERIFIED PRIOR TO ITS INSTALLATION. PIPE MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED. 2.PIPE SHALL BE SHADED AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE AFTER IT IS INSTALLED. TENSILE LOADING CONSIDERATIONS PE PIPE MUST NOT BE INSTALLED SO THAT IT IS UNDER TENSION. ALLOWANCE MUST BE MADE FOR THERMAL CONTRACTION WHEN PE PIPE IS INSTALLED ON A WARM DAY, OTHERWISE THE PE PIPE WILL BE IN TENSION WHEN IT COOLS. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT ON INSERT WORK, SINCE THERE IS LITTLE RESTRAINT ON THE PE PIPE DUE TO LACK OF SOIL LOADING. 1.FOR DIRECT BURIAL WHERE CLEARANCE FROM OTHER FACILITIES IS NOT A PROBLEM, SNAKE THE PIPE WITHIN THE TRENCH TO PROVIDE EXCESS LENGTH. 2.AT TIE-IN LOCATIONS, THE PIPE SHOULD BE CUT LONG SO THAT THE TIE-IN FITTINGS ARE IN COMPRESSION WHEN INSTALLED. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, MAKE THE TIE-INS DURING THE COOLER PART OF THE DAY, AFTER THE PIPE HAS COOLED TO GROUND TEMPERATURE. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PERMIT THE PIPE TO COOL OVERNIGHT AND TIE-IN IN THE MORNING FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS. DIRECT BURIAL 1.PLASTIC MAIN AND SERVICES INSTALLED BY DIRECT BURIAL MUST BE 3 FEET MINIMUM COVER FROM FINISH SURFACE GRADE. BACKFILL THE TRENCH WHEN PIPE IS COOL TO MINIMIZE TENSILE STRESS DUE TO THERMAL CONTRACTION. 2.THE GAS LINE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM OF 12" ABOVE OR BELOW ANY CROSS LINES. THE LOCATING WIRE MAY BE STRAPPED AT CONVENIENT INTERVALS TO THE PLASTIC LINE WITH POLYETHYLENE BLACK TAPE OR TIE CABLES. PVC TAPES ARE NOT PERMITTED FOR STRAPPING. ALL WIRE SPLICES SHALL BE MADE WITH COMPRESSION FITTINGS AND WRAPPED WITH BLACK TAPE (AQUA SEAL). THE SPLICE SHALL THEN BE WRAPPED WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE. 6.AWG NO 10 COPPER WIRE, HMWPE YELLOW SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH GAS MAINS AND AWG NO 14 COPPER HMWPE YELLOW SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH SERVICES. 7.AT THE END OF EACH SERVICE STUB, THE LOCATING WIRE SHALL BE COILED INTO A TEST LEAD BOX FOR LATER LOCATION. VALVES 1.WHEN INSTALLING VALVES, ALL TWISTING OF THE PLASTIC PIPE MUST BE ELIMINATED SO THAT THE VALVE STEM REMAINS VERTICAL AND THE VALVE IS UNDER NO STRAIN. 2.PROVIDE GOOD BACKFILL SUPPORT UNDER THE VALVE AND AROUND THE PIPE AT BOTH ENDS. DO NOT COMPLETELY BURY THE VALVE PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE VALVE BOX. A. PROPER FIT-UP PROCEDURES ARE TO BE USED. THESE INCLUDE SQUARING THE ENDS OF THE PIPE, REMOVING BURNS, AND INSERTING A METAL STIFFENER IN THE PIPE. ALL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO BE FOLLOWED. B. INSURE THAT NO JOINS WILL BE UNDER TENSION WHEN THE PIPE COOLS. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT ON INSERT CONSTRUCTION WHERE THE PIPE IS FREE TO MOVE INSIDE THE CASING WITH CHANGES OF TEMPERATURE. C. VERIFY PROPER INSTALLATION OF FITTING. PIPE MUST BE FULLY INSERTED INTO FITTINGS USING PROPER DEPTH MARKINGS AS GUIDELINES. FITTINGS WITH COMPRESSION NUTS MUST BE PROPERLY TIGHTENED. STIFFENER MUST EXTEND PAST AREA UNDER COMPRESSION GASKET. D. MARK INSERTION DEPTH ON ALL FITTINGS TO ENSURE PROPER FIT. E. THE PERFECTIONS "PERMASERT" CHAMFERING AND INSERT GAUGE MUST BE USED TO PROPERLY PREPARE PIPE ENDS WHEN USING "PERMASERT" FITTINGS. PROTECTIVE SLEEVING 1.PROTECTIVE SLEEVES MUST BE INSTALLED ON ALL SERVICE CONNECTIONS WHEN THE FITTING IS SUPPLIED WITH THE SLEEVES. 2.PROTECTIVE SLEEVES MUST BE INSTALLED WHENEVER PE PIPE EXITS A METAL CASING. SERVICE INSTALLATION 1.SERVICES SHALL BE STUBBED UNDERGROUND IN A LOCATION THAT WILL MINIMIZE FUTURE DISRUPTION OF LANDSCAPING. 2.THE SERVICE LINE SHALL BE TAPPED AND EXTENDED TO 3' FROM THE FACE OF THE HOUSE AND 18" TO THE LEFT OF THE HOUSE FUEL GAS PIPING INLET. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR FUTURE INSTALLATION OF A SERVICE RISER AND METER. 3.THE SERVICE LINE WILL BE DEAD-ENDED WITH A CAP AND THE LOCATING WIRE SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE SURFACE IN A SMALL BOX FOR FUTURE LOCATION. THE BOX WILL BE PLACED, AS NEAR AS PRACTICABLE OVER THE END OF THE LINE. 4.ADD READILY-VISIBLE, TEMPORARY POST-TYPE MARKER TO ENDS OF ALL LINES AND SERVICES. BACKFILL 1.PIPE SHALL BE PLACED ON A 6" OF SAND PADDING AND SHADED WITH 12" OF SAND. SAND SHALL MEET SoCalGAS REQUIREMENTS FOR SAND PADDING MATERIALS. 2.THE REMAINDER OF THE DITCH SHALL BE BACKFILLED WITH NATIVE MATERIAL FREE OF DEBRIS AND ROCKS LARGER THAN 1". 3.BEDDING AND BACKFILL INSPECTION, INCLUDING COMPACTION TESTING IS TO BE PROVIDED BY OWNER'S GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANT. COORDINATE COMPACTION TEST WITH THE INSPECTOR AND ENGINEER. 4.WHEN TYPICAL TRENCH SECTIONS ARE ADDED TO THE PLANS, VERIFY THAT BACKFILL REQUIREMENTS ARE SHOWN CONSISTENTLY. CATHODIC PROTECTION INSTALL ONE 5LB ZINC ANODE FOR EVERY 1,000' OF LOCATING WIRE. TEST REQUIREMENTS 1.THE PLASTIC PORTION OF THE SYSTEM SHALL BE TESTED FOR 2 HOURS AT 100 PSIG. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A RECORDING CLOCK TO VERIFY THE PRESSURE AND TIME. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE THE TIME, DATE, LENGTH OF EACH SECTION TESTED AND PERSON(S) PERFORMING EACH TEST ON THE LINE BACK OF THE RECORDING CHART. AND ON THE MATERIAL TESTING AND VERIFICATION SHEET. 2.THE RECORDING CLOCK SHALL BE CALIBRATED WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF THE TEST AND THE ENGINEER WILL BE PROVIDED CALIBRATION DOCUMENTATION. AS-BUILT DRAWINGS 1.CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUBMITTING A "RED-LINE" SET OF AS BUILT DRAWINGS. This equation is as seen below. The Montage Hotel and Spa, Pendry Hotel, Golf Clubhouse and Conference Center can all be supplied at a 5 psig delivery pressure. The 34 guest rooms (GR1, GR2, GR3 and GR4) will be individually regulated at each POC which is typical for the industry. Supply pressure at the SCG meter was changed to 10 psig to meet an earlier design, with the current design 10 psig is not required. All new proposed distribution piping is to be 8300 Series PE4710. All load was diversified and modeled on 120% per provided service data. Dimensions and diameters of the existing piping were best determined from drawings. Recommended gas velocities of 10 ft/sec (minimum) and 50 ft/sec (maximum) were maintained. Minimum Operating Pressure of 1 psig was maintained (20% of service pressure).
