My art practice has consisted of murals, tapestries, and/or mobile work for indoor art. I approach these projects as a painter. They are hand -brushed in my acrylic color and tonal gradation style. This style is unique in its ability to use color and tone to control the level of abstraction of the fairly realistic subject matter. In design, this is done with the Photoshop gradient, dodge, and burn tools. And in creating the design, any subject matter can be used. My work centers around the human figure. I compose the deigns with Photoshop. The uniqueness of the work lies in my hand -brushing of color tone. In design this is done with the My art typically celebrates the figure in ways that juxtaposes people with their environment. I work off photos and archival graphics which I convert to line drawings. They are superimposed and hand -painted so that the design becomes a slightly abstract and thoughtful puzzle. They project a depth and color that means different things to different people, provoking a bit of speculation. It keeps the work fresh year after year. This Socratic energy between the art and the viewer, and more importantly, between the viewers themselves, becomes an engaging part of the public art experience. All my projects include engaging with the community and their connection to past and present history. Budget permitting, I visit to talk to the people, take area photos, and look into archives. The culture and history of the area's specific neighborhood are always of interest. Audio-visual show & tell and Q & A with schools and local community centers can be arranged. This is not only useful as a design resource, but serves to develop a sense of participation in the project, giving the youth and their families a proprietary interest in the stakeholder's artwork. My murals and mobiles are hand -painted in -studio and made of thickly applied hand - brushed acrylic polymer (NovaColor www.novacolorpaint.com ) on a Phifer SunTex 95/97 fiberglass mesh (https://www.phifer.com/product/suntex-95). The mobiles are made with cut Gatorfoam (www.gatorfoam.com) or aluminum honeycomb panels such as SS 304 (www.pacificpanels.com) or Alumicore (www.americanlumberproducts.com). The substrate is adhered to the wall or mobiles with Sherwin-Williams Vinyl -over -Vinyl (VoV) adhesive (www.sherwin- williams.com/pdf/products). This is an industry -standard adhesive that permits easy installation and removal. The work can be made flame retardant with any of a number of coatings such as Flamort X or Flame Stop I-DS (www.flamestop.com). Recent commissions include murals and pavers for the Washington State University Vancouver Campus new Life Sciences Bldg. (Michael Sweney mike.sweney@arts.wa.gov 360-228-4080). Roberto L. The RFP does not state that the $1 OK budget is for the entire vinyl wrap and installation or just the design. If it is for design only, then it is assumed that the total project budget for the entire vinyl wrap and installation is $90K as stated in Article I. 1.11.
