RESOLUTION NO. 85-97
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING ALL ELEMENTS OF
THE GENERAL PLAN DY ADOPTING A NEW COMPREHENSIVE
GENERAL PLAN.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Quinta previously adopted
Resolution No. 83-13 establishing a General Plan for the City; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the previous General Plan consisting
of various County-prepared elements needs a more comprehensive approach
to assure compliance with current laws and regulations; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has recommended approval of a new
comprehensive General Plan pursuant to Sections 65350 et seq. of the
California Planning and zoning Law and has transmitted same to the City
Council in compliance with Section 65354 of said Law; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has held at least one public hearing on
the new comprehensive General Plan as required by Section 65355 of the
California Planning and zoning Law; and
WHEREAS, the new comprehensive General Plan consists of a Hazards
Element, Natural Resources Element, Cultural Resources Element, Community
Development Element, Infrastructure Element, and Housing Element which
elements contain all elements required by Section 65300 et seq. of the
California Planning and zoning Act and as recommended by State of
California General Plan Guidelines; and
WHEREAS, a Master Environmental Assessment has been *repared and
certified for this project as prescribed by the California Environmental
Quality Act and identifies various mitigation measures to reduce potential
impacts to a level of insignificance or identifies various impacts which
cannot be so mitigated with a Statement of Overriding Considerations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
La Quinta, California, hereby amends all elements of the General Plan by
adopting a new comprehensive General Plan consisting of maps and text
which are attached to and made a part of this Resolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the approval of the Housing Element
shall be on a provisional basis only pending its review and comment by
the State of California, Department of Housing and Community Development
as required by Section 65585 of the California Planning and zoning Law.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the text and implementation policies
describing the Village Commercial land use category Pages VI-8 and Vl-9)
and the area designated on the Land Use Plan as Village Commercial11 are
excepted from this approval.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 83-13, adopting certain
parts of the County General Plan as the General Plan for the City, is
hereby repealed.

RESOLUTION NO. 85-97
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall endorse on said
General Plan the date of its adoption by the City Council and the date
of its recommendation for approval by the Planning Commission.
APPROVED and ADOPTED this 19th day of November 1985, by the
following vote:
AYES: Council Members Allen, Bohnenberger, Cox, Wolff and Mayor Pena.
NOES; None.
ABSENT: None.
