SUBJECT: MINOR USE PERMIT 2025-0010: 80770 VISTA BONITA TRAIL
SPORT COURT LIGHTING
Dear Mr. Ballard:
The Design and Development Department has approved your request to install four (4) new light poles
at a proposed sport court located at 80770 Vista Bonita Trail. Approval of this application is subject to
the attached exhibits for the Minor Use Permit and the following Findings and Conditions of Approval:
FINDINGS
Consistency with the General Plan: The proposed light poles and sport court are consistent with
the goals, objectives and policies of the General Plan, in that the proposed sport court and lights
are designed to be compatible with adjoining properties with the addition of light shields that will
direct light away from spreading to them.
2. Public Welfare: Approval of the proposed light poles will not create conditions materially
detrimental to the public health, safety and general welfare.
3. The proposed new light poles at the proposed sport court will not create new adverse visual
impacts. A hedge proposed along the rear property line is intended to screen the sport court and
lights.
CONDITIONS
The applicant/property owner agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the City of La
Quinta (the "City"), its agents, officers and employees from any claim, or litigation arising out of
the City's approval of this project. This indemnification shall include any award toward attorney's
fees. The City of La Quinta shall have the right to select its defense counsel in its sole discretion.
The City of La Quinta shall promptly notify the applicant of any claim, action, or proceeding and
shall cooperate fully in the defense.
2. The applicant shall comply with all provisions of La Quinta Municipal Code Section 9.60.150
"Tennis and other game courts."
3. A maximum of four (4) lights shall be permitted and the mounting standard height shall not exceed
eighteen (18) feet measured from the court surface. Courts shall not be lighted after 10:00 p.m.

4. The surface area of any game court shall be designed, painted, colored and/or textured to reduce
the reflection from any light source.
5. Landscaping shall be installed and maintained between the sport court and property lines.
6. The applicant is permitted to install the equipment identified on the scope of work on the approved
and attached plans for MUP2025-0010.
7. The applicant shall obtain all necessary building permits from the City's Building Division and is
responsible for meeting all applicable plan check submittal requirements.
This decision may be appealed to the Planning Commission by any party who submits the necessary
paperwork and filing fee of $1,575.00 to this office within 15 days of the date of approval of this permit.
The City may elect to add Conditions to this application request to mitigate any problems that arise not

Statement of Operations
This is the application for the installation of 4 -18' light poles with 4 shielded LED light fixtures to
illuminate a sport court in the backyard of my residence. The sport court will be intended for
basketball and pickleball. The lights and light poles will be bronze in color. The light fixture will
have a polycarbonate lens that is intended to minimize the spread of light beyond the court area.
The court will be surfaced with a non -reflective coating commonly used on tennis/sport courts.
The lights will be no closer than 30' from the nearest property line and we are planning to install
a ficus hedge along the length of that property line that will significantly block any view of the
light fixtures. Furthermore, the court will be surrounded by the planting of mature oak and olive
trees that will further mitigate any potential effects. The remaining property lines are at least 60'
away from the light fixtures.
The court is expected to get infrequent use and will not be used between 10PM and sunrise.
There will be no employees or additional local, state or federal permits required beyond the MUP
from the city of La Quinta.
Other than nets and paddles, no other equipment is required.
No hazardous material will be used or stored.

There are existing CMU block walls at the western and southern property lines that are approximately 5' tall. The
light trespass drops to virtually zero at these locations due to the height of the walls.
