The California Price Index for Selected Highway Construction Items for the second quarter of 2022 stands at 94.48, down 3.5 points (3.5 percent) from the first quarter of 2022 index of 97.94. The index for the last twelve months (July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022) is 83.50, down 1.74 points (2.0 percent) from the first quarter of 2022 year-to-date index of 85.24. Cost increases were recorded in Aggregate Base, Asphalt Concrete Pavement, Portland Cement Concrete (Pavement), Portland Cement Concrete (Structure), Bar Reinforcing Steel, and Structural Steel in the second quarter. Cost decreases were recorded in Roadway Excavation in the second quarter. The average number of bidders per project in the second quarter of 2022 was 4.7, as compared to 5.4 in the first quarter of 2022 and 5.20 in the corresponding quarter of 2021. Roadway Excavation: $14.29 per cubic yard-OK The price decreased $9.46 from the average price of $23.75 per cubic yard last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $1.00 to $2,500.00 per cubic yard. Aggregate Base: $43.80 per ton The price increased $3.80 from the average price of $40.00 per ton last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $10.33 to $7,236.84 per ton. Asphalt Concrete Pavement: $144.68 per ton-OK The price increased $29.56 from the average price of $115.12 per ton last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $76.00 to $6,250.00 per ton. Portland Cement Concrete (Pavement): $545.23 per cubic yard-OK The price increased $101.01 from the average price of $444.22 per cubic yard last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $387.00 to $1275.00 per cubic yard. Portland Cement Concrete (Structure): $1,378.86 per cubic yard-OK The price increased $305.96 from the average price of $1,072.90 per cubic yard last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $500.00 to $30,300.00 per cubic yard. Bar Reinforcing Steel: $2.01 per pound-OK The price increased $0.53 from the average price of $1.48 per pound last quarter. The bid prices ranged from $1.00 to $25.00 per pound. Structural Steel: $5.54 per pound-OK The price increased $1.66 from the average price of $3.88 per pound last quarter.
