HomeMy WebLinkAbout001 - Temporary Road Closure for Sewer Improvements February 15, 2023 Via e-mail City of La Quinta Public Works Department 78495 Calle Tampico La Quinta, Ca. 92253 Attn: Tom Nowak Re: Dune Palms Bridge Rd. Improvement City of La Quinta Project 2011-05 Ortiz Job No. 234 Log No. 001 Subject: Full Closure of Dune Palms Rd. for Sewer Improvements Dear Mr. Nowak, Per our recent discussions relating to our scheduled work for the sewer relocations, and the necessary traffic control required to complete this work, Ortiz Enterprises, Inc. understands and appreciates the City’s concerns of impact to the public. For background:  As both the 12” sewer and 18” sewer cross existing Dune Palms Road, OEI (and our subcontractor SRK Engineering) anticipated using temporary traffic control to close 1 lane in either direction of Dune Palms Road while installing this sewer work. We anticipated this work to last 5 weeks.  The City has reservations to perform the work in this manner due to the heavy traffic experienced during school hours.  Unfortunately, no other options are available to keep both lanes of Dune Palms Road open during this work. There is not enough room to build a temporary road around the work, due to existing sewer manholes, existing IID poles, and slope paving. This afternoon a concept was proposed by the City to perform this work utilizing a complete closure of Dune Palms Road for a 2 week period, beginning Monday, February 27, 2023. This closure would be in effect 24 hours per day for 2 weeks, uninterrupted. OEI has discussed this option with SRK. Both OEI and SRK are in agreement that this option would be beneficial to all parties involved. At the end of this two-week period all work in the existing Dune Palms Road will be complete. We anticipate that an additional 1 to 1 ½ weeks will remain to complete the sewer work outside of Dune Palms Road, with no traffic control required. OEI will install and maintain all necessary traffic control necessary for the closure of Dune Palms Road (signage, detour signs, etc.) during the two-week closure. Please let us know your thoughts. We have postponed beginning this work until February 27, 2023, hopefully giving the City the time required to approve this concept, and distribute all required notifications. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Mike Adams Project Manager Ortiz Enterprises, Inc. Cc: Job 234/COLQ/Corr. to file
