A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING THE NUMBER
OF RESIDENTS OF THE CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF
DETERMINING THE VOLUNTARY EXPENDITURE CEILING
FOR CITY ELECTIONS, AS ESTABLISHED IN SECTION
2.05.010 OF THE LA QUINTA MUNICIPAL CODE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA, DOES HEREBY FIND,
ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals.
A. Pursuant to the Provisions of The Political Reform Act of 1996",
passed by the voters as Proposition 208 on the November 5, 1 996 statewide ballot,
the City Council has adopted an Ordinance establishing a voluntary expenditure ceiling
for campaigns for City elective office.
B. Pursuant to La Quinta Municipal Code Section 2.05.010, the voluntary
expenditure ceiling was established at an amount equal to One dollar $1) per
resident of the City for each election to City elective office.
C. Pursuant to La Quinta Municipal Code Section 2.05.010, the City
Council is required to establish by Resolution the number of residents in the City prior
to each election for City elective office.
Section 2. For the exclusive purpose of determining the exact amount
of the voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective office, the City
Council hereby finds that there are 1 8,046 residents of the City of La Quinta, as
reflected in the most recent data provided by the California Department of Finance.
Therefore, as established by La Quinta Municipal Code Section 2.05.010, the amount
of the voluntary expenditure ceiling for campaigns for City elective office is $1 8,046
per election.
Section 3. The City Council hereby declares that the determination herein
shall apply only to the voluntary expenditure ceiling established in the La Quinta
Municipal Code, and shall have no bearing on any other matter.
Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
