CC Resolution 1998-088^ T RESOLUTION NO.98-85 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA SUPPORTING RIVERSIDE COUNTY IN THEIR APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL EMPOWERMENT DESIGNATION ZONE FOR EASTERN RIVERSIDE COUNTY WHEREAS, the City of La Quinta received a request from the Riverside County Economic Development Agency to support their application for a Federal Empowerment Zone designation; and, WHEREAS, a portion of the City of La Quinta is within the boundaries of the proposed Empowerment Zone; and, WHEREAS, there are several advantages for being included within an Empowerment Zone including: Tax Exempt Facility Bonds, Social Service Block Grants, and special consideration when applying for various Federal funding; and, WHEREAS, many community service organizations and agencies currently providing various programs and services in the proposed Empowerment Zone area have offices or facilities within the City limits of La Quinta; and, WHEREAS, there will only be a total of 5 rural" Empowerment Zone designations awarded nationwide, and community-wide support is an essential component of any application NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of La Quinta fully supports the County of Riverside's efforts in receiving a Federal Empowerment Zone designation.
