A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LA QUINTA SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 2026, THE
LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION BOND ACT
WHEREAS, the future of our state is dependent upon an educated society; and,
WHEREAS, libraries are exceptionat educational sources for California's residents;
and
WHEREAS, in 1992-93, the state initiated the Education Revenue Augmentation
Fund ERAF) which resulted in upwards of a 50% loss of property taxes to help support
libraries; and,
WHEREAS, many communities need new or reconstructed library buildings to serve
their residents; and,
WHEREAS, the ERAF has precluded communities from providing quality libraries
for their citizens; and,
WHEREAS, Senators Rainey and Burton have proposed legislation known as
Senate Bill 2026, the California Library Construction and Renovation Bond, to make funds
available to communities for library construction and renovation; and,
WHEREAS, the City of La Quinta believes that the passage of 5B2026 would be
in the best interest of the citizens of the state and the City of La Quinta.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of La
Quinta fully supports SB2026, the California Library Construction and Renovations Bond
and hereby requests the Governor to support this important legislation for the citizens of
the state of California.

following vote:
AYES: Council Members Henderson, Perkins, Sniff, Mayor Pena
