1988 11 29 CC Minutes! 435 LA QUINTA CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED MEETING MINUTES NOVEMBER 29, 1988 Adjourned meeting of the La Quinta City Council was called to order at the hour of 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Hoyle. PRESENT: Council Members Bohnenberger, Cox, Pena, Sniff, Mayor Hoyle ABSENT: None 1) C PUBLIC COMMENTS None COMMENTS BY COUNCIL Council Member Sniff commented on the contribution made by all the Council candidates to the City and urged them to stay involved. To Mayor Hoyle and Council Member Cox, he stated that their contributions to the City are unmeasurable and expressed thanks and appreciation for their dedication. He also welcomed the newly elected Council Members commenting that our goal is to be the best City in California. With the citizens help and cooperation, we will achieve that goal. Council Member Cox thanked the citizens for letting her serve the City for the past six years it has been a rewarding experience. She congratulated the newly elected Council Members and thanked those who ran and didn't win. BUSINESS SESSION 1. ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 1988 AND DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF. Mrs. Juhola, City Clerk, advised that the Registrar of Voters has certified the General Municipal Election held on November 8, 1968. The successful candidates were: John Pena, Mayor 1,30E votes Dale Bohnenberger, Council Member 1,500 votes William Rushworth, Council Member 1,005 votes Joyce Bosworth, Council Member 989 votes The resolution calling the election set forth that the Council candidate receiving the third highest number of votes would receive a two year term, so Joyce Bosworth will have that two-year term. The overall voter turn-out was 72.1 percent. RESOLUTION NO. 88-133 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA QUINTA, CALIFORNIA?A, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY OF LA QUINTA ON THE 8TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1988, DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW. It was moved by Council Member Sniff, seconded by Council Member Cox that Resolution No. B8-133 be adopted. Passed by the following vote: AYES: Council Members Bohnenberger, Cox, Pena, Sniff, Mayor Hoyle NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None At this time, the Mayor turned the meeting over to the City Clerk. Mr? Juhola then administered the Oath of Office to John Pena, Dale Bohnenberger, William Rushworth and Joyce Bosworth. Mayor Pena then assumed the gavel. COUNCIL COMMENTS Council Member Rushworth thanked the voters of La Quinta and thanked the unsuccessful candidates as they showed that they have an interest in the community and hoped that this Council will carry out their wishes too. Council Member Bosworth thanked all her supporters and stated that she will do her best for the City of La Quinta. Council Member Bohnenberger thanked his supporters and the voters of La Quinta, who turned out in record numbers. He felt that the voters made wise choices in this election. He thanked Judee Cox and Bill Hoyle and reflected on the accomplishments this Council has made just during the past two years: population has grown nearly 30%; opening of elementary school and library; completed the storm water facilities; adoption and implementation of award-winning Village At La Quinta Specific Plan; expansion of Redevelopment Agency to include Sports Complex; set in motion a cove improvement project; initiated a new project area on the north side of town to provide for infrastructure improvements; and have purchased the civic center site and have begun the architectural design. City Council Minutes 3 November 29, 1988 111 Mayor Pena thanked Judee Cox and ill Hoyle for their public service. He also thanked his family, particularly his parents. He also thanked his campaign advisor, Jake Whan and Peter Cathy; Cindy Solis, Mark Moran and all of his volunteers. He promised that the City will continue to progress and asked the citizens to join him in making La Quinta one of the finest communities in the country. At this time, Mayor Pena presented Judee Cox with a plague on behalf of the Council and the citizens of La Quinta expressing a) appreciation for her years of loyal and dedicated service. A plague was also prepared for Bill Hoyle, who had already left Cr) the meeting). ELECTION OF MAYOR PRO-TEM Council Member Rushworth nominated Council Member Bohnenberger for Mayor Pro-Tem. MOTION It was moved by Council Member Sniff, seconded by Council Member Rushworth that nominations be closed. Council Member Bohnenberger was elected Mayor Pro-Tem unanimously.
