1995 01 24 CC Minutes Sp Mtg LA QUINTA CITY COUNCIL MINUTES JANUARY 24, 1995 Special meeting of the La Quinta City Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Mayor Pena followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. PRESENT: Council Members Bangerter, Perkins, Sniff, Mayor Pena ABSENT: One Vacancy) CONFIRMATION OF AGENDA Confirmed ANNOUNCEMENTS None PRESENTATIONS At this time, Mayor Pena presented a plaque to Clint Bohien, Parks and Recreation Director expressing appreciation for his service and dedication to the community noting that he is leaving La Quinta to take a similar position out-ofrstate. PUBLIC COMMENT None BUSINESS SESSION 1. INTERVIEW APPLICANTS FOR CITY COUNCIL VACANCY AND SELECTION OF COUNCIL MEMBER TO FILL UNEXPIRED TERM WHICH EXPIRES NOVEMBER 7, 1995. Mayor Pena advised that all applicants will be sequestered until their name is called and asked that members of the audience not share the questions with the applicants during the recesses in the interest of fairness. Council Member Sniff suggested that each applicant make a brief opening statement of not more than 2-3 minutes and that the Council then proceed to ask questions of the applicant with follow-up questions afterward and that there be no time limits imposed, but to try to keep the interviews at around 20 minutes each. Further, once the interview is over that there be no opportunity for the applicant to make any additional statements and that no applicant be eliminated from consideration until one applicant receives a majority vote. The Council then proceeded to interview the following applicants: Donald Adolph Richard Butler Jim Cathcart Andrew Devin Dan Featheringill Scott Fisher Dane Hooper Frank Reynolds B. J. Seaton Gary Tomak Robert Tyler Dr. Jack Wilson Mayor Pena and Members of the Council commented on the caliber and quality of the applicants and thanked each of them for their interest in serving the City. VOTING BALLOT NO.1 Council Member Bangerter voted for B. J. Seaton Council Member Perkins voted for Jim Cathcart Council Member Sniff voted for B. J. Seaton Mayor Pena voted for Jim Cathcart BALLOT NO.2 Council Member Bangerter voted for B. J. Seaton Council Member Perkins voted for Jim Cathcart Council Member Sniff voted for B. J. CONFERENCE WTTH REAL PROPERTY NEGOTIATOR PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 54956.8 REGARDING NEGOTIATIONS FOR PROPOSED COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING PRICE. TERM OF PAYMENT FOR PROPERTY LOCATED AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF HIGHWAY 11 AND JEFFERSON STREET TIM EALEY, NEGOTIATOR FOR MIDLAND PROPE?ES Council reconvened witli no action being taken.
