COUNCILIRDA MEETING DATh: June 20, 1996 CONSENT CALENDAR: I ITEM TIThE: SThDY SESSION: Approval of Resolution No.96- Approving PUBLIC HEARING: a Memorandum of Understanding Between the City of La Quinta and the La Quinta City Employees' Association RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a Resolution approving a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of La Quinta and the La Quinta City Employees' AssoQiation. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: A 2% cost of living adjustment effective July 1, 1996 will be given to Association members. Non- represented employees will also receive a 2% cost of living adjustment. The City has agreed to absorb $5.76 of the total increase of $6.26 per month, per employee, in medical insurance premiums, for employees with dependents. The employee will absorb the remaining $.50 of the increase per month for Fiscal Year 1 996-97. The City will absorb the entire increase of $3.74 per month for employees without dependent coverage. The City will also absorb an estimated annual premium increase of $1,500 for enhanced disability coverage that will include an eligibility period of 14 consecutive days of lost time due to illness or injury and a one day eligibility period when hospitalization is required. The total increase in salary and fringe benefits is projected to be $75,500 for Fiscal Year 1 996/97. BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW: The City and the Association in a series of meetings beginning in April and concluding in June, have met and conferred in good faith pursuant to the Meyers-Milias- Brown Act on matters relating to employment conditions and employer/ employee relations including wages, hours, and other terms of employment.
