September 25, 1992 Mayor Pena and City Council members To be pn'n ted on the agenda and z?orded in the minutes When I was speaking at the Planning Commission meeting on September 22 against the matter of increasing the amount of commercial property in the Village of La Quinta, I was interrupted by acting Chairman, Fred Mosher, and later by Planning Commissioner Marrs. Other people have commented to me about their reluctance to speak up about issues when a chairman wants to hear only positive response. In their doing this, they tend to increase the amount of discord and dissatisfaction with the residents of La Quinta. These are serious concerns for the future of our city which we want to be the best it can be. There is even more important matter which I mentioned to Jerry Herman, the Planning Director: that scheduling the meeting of the Planning Commission on Monday, September 28, which is a Jewish high holiday, would be bad publicity for the City of La Quinta and offend the Jewish community of the Coachella Valley. Religious holidays are routinely recognized by City governments. This oversight can be readily corrected by rescheduling the meeting. Because the tree is located in the proposed alignment of the roadway, the tree will need to be either removed, transplanted, or the northbound roadway realigned to curve around the tree on the park side of it.
